The Green Party had things to celebrate nationally

and the Green Party in Pennsylvania as well

But in Philadelphia the Green Party celebrated a change in perception that may be the big hope of the Philadelphia Green Party to maybe taking away one of the two minority City Council seats from one of the Republicans. In Philly no party can have all the seats on City Council.

The Green Party is not seen as something that ordinary people interested in bread and butter issues would flock to. However, Cheri Honkala running for Sheriff, got poor folks involved, then she went on the be the Vice Presidential candidate for the Green Party, as poor folk yawned.

Struggling folk tend not to look to the Green Party as interested in their needs. However Cheri Honkala once a homeless pregnant runaway with a drug challenged Mom went on to run for Sheriff with a bread and butter campaign. Among the people she helped along the way was a single Vet-Dad raising three kids on his McDonald’s salary, as his house was under foreclosure, and Glenn Davis got inspired into Green politics as Cheri and others demonstrated to delay foreclosure.

He got on the ballot in Pennsylvania, the hardest to do in the nation, ringing many doorbells. McDonalds helped after he organized fighting for a $15 restaurant wage, changed his schedule to when he had to take his kids out of day care, so had a lot of free time as when signed on for night work and was never called.

2014 didn't start well Paul Grover a frugal old hippie who didn't look poor because he knew how to survive and thrive with almost no money but couldn't bike the rest of the state so his great signature gathering in Philly couldn't balance not biking to the fracking areas of the state, so Glenn would have to campaign alone.

Then Glenn got the good news that he was offered a mortgage and had to do plumbing and heating, free-lance work, to meet the mortgage, when one would expect him to be out campaigning. He got 4.2% of the votes anyway. That would be $2 a vote which is off the charts. The minimum starts @ $5 a vote and heads for $175 a vote.

I was a campaign worker for Glenn Davis November 4 in the largest senior building at 3901 Market St. I was armed with, besides Glenn literature, my own paste ups I made from articles about his running from the windy rain wettened 18th and Market St. Philadelphia Weekly news box. University Square Senior Building 29th Ward 6th Division voting room had two entrances, one through the building that the residents came into vote and the back side for the neighborhood. After six hours inside without, as far as I could see, any results, my friend only disappointed in not being able to vote for Paul Glover, I went outside and got to work. My, what I think effective rap, at the end was “You have several progressive choices” did you read about Glenn Davis in the Philadelphia Weekly pointing to my paste up. Several student looking types said yes. One elderly vet came out frustrated that he couldn't vote for Glenn a Vietnam Vet and Vanessa Brown at the same time. They refused to put up the machine results disappointed me finding out what I accomplished. but Margret Singer's City Controllers office and I on my computer found out, Glenn got 7.94% in this division.

One could check the other districts where there was a free Philadelphia News Box near-by to see if polling places near Philadelphia Weekly news-boxes got more Glenn votes and those far away got less, to see if they might have voted for Glenn without my help.

Whether or not the Green Party in the US becomes bread and butter, or another bread and butter third party emerges will have more effect on the future than whether the Democrats and Republicans get along or fight.
