CProtesters interrupted a speech by Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann in Mount Pleasant. The protesters stood up and began shouting "Mic check!" and told her she was more concerned with dividing Americans than helping them.

Mic check!

This will only take a minute | We have a message for Mrs. Bachmann.

You capitalize on dividing Americans | claiming people that disagree with you | are unpatriotic socialists | and you promote discrimination.

This does not help the American People.

You parade as a grassroots candidate | but your campaign is funded | by Americans For Prosperity | a group that takes advantage | of legalized money laundering.

This does not help the American People.

This does not help the American people.

This does not help the American people.

We demand an end to legitimized corruption | through a constitutional reversal | of the Citizens United decision.

This will help the American people.

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. I can remember when, during the Reagan Era, Republicans would show up at speeches by people they did not approve of and blow air horns or otherwise attempt to disrupt the events. This seems a far more powerful and honest statement. Ms. Bachmann has a right to speak, to be sure, but she's had plenty of time in which to do so (backed by an equally large budget). Those who spoke up in this video have almost certainly never had been heard before, and it's an important message. There was far more happening here than merely attempting to drown out Ms. Bachmann and certainly no one made any threatening gesture toward her as she rushed for the wings accompanied by a handler.

Note, too, that once the message had been delivered, those who delivered it left the room, peacefully, and without any "escorting" by security whatsoever. Even the police officer who appeared to be restraining a perceived leader simply let him go.

DaveM, that is par for the course for Bachmann! She was once confronted by two women is a restroom who wanted to have a heartfelt woman to woman discussion and she ran from the room before a discussion could commence, and I believe she claimed assault. FOR REAL! If I am not mistaken,I believe one of the women was Ann Bancroft, polar explorer, who accompanied Will Steger and Paul Schurke to the North Pole.

If there's an Occupy Charleston, that must mean just about EVERYwhere is occupied. These kids are the most heroic thing that has happened to this lost, corrupt, looted, flimflammed country in many years....maybe since the Civil Rights Movement. Thank God for a voice OUTside of the billionaires' and whored-out-politicians' and bootlick broadcasters' echo chambers.

mody doug, I am ashamed to say that in St. Cloud MN(the heart of Bachmann's support) there is no Occupy Movement beyond the disenfranchised . From my experience there just isn't a lot of brilliance amongst the natives. They are a very dull group.

Accolades to activists willing to take action using methods like the Mic Check to express the truth of the state of American politics and force the worst offenders to understand they don't rule this country.

Michelle Bachman never says anything new. She represents everything the 1% want to further their control over the economy and politics.

Thumbs up! But they need to practice a little bit so they can all be shouting the same thing at the same time. Shelly certainly looked verklempt and discombobulated , but I would imagine that's kind of a natural state of mind for her. Congress critter Joe Walsh (R) told a postal employee that he didn't care about public sector jobs a couple of days ago. We should help all such Congress Critters and relieve them of their odious public sector jobs ASAP.

Ms Bachman was certainly taken aback. She wasn't sure how to respond as she thought the OWS were all T-baggers. "Are these people here for me or are they here against me?" She had never heard "Mic check" in her life. She was not prepared, the audience was not prepared, the security was not prepared. That's what these kids are so great at, it is protest performance art. And when the last guy comes out from behind the curtain I thought maybe he was "The Wizard" here to bring Bachman courage to face the truth, a heart to connect to whatever soul she has wandering, and a brain would be nice, no such luck there. What would she run on then?
