Trumpist Thuggery at the Polls

It seems inevitable that there will be voter intimidation at the polls for the 2016 U.S. presidential election. With supporters fired up by the divisive rhetoric of their "demigod," it's a sure bet that some of these deranged individuals will be out there to stop "voter fraud" by committing voter suppression.

To these Trumpist thugs, if Trump says the system is rigged against him, then it must be true. After all, their "fearless" leader knows all. One of them is Steve Webb, a 61 year old carpenter from Ohio. The Boston Globe quoted Webb as saying, "I'll look out for...well, it's called racial profiling. Mexicans. Syrians. People who can't speak American. I'm going to go right up behind them. I'll do everything legally. I want to see if they're accountable. I'm going to make them a little bit nervous." (Webb apparently doesn't see the irony of his objective. How is it legal to prevent someone from voting, even through intimidation?)

Then there is Roger Stone, one of Trump's advisors. Stone created a group called "Vote Protectors." (What an infantile name.) This phony monitoring entity plans to go to nine cities where people of color live. The group is to wear "badges" and conduct "exit polling." Stone has been called a "gleefully nihilistic, nakedly cynical operator" by BuzzFeed news reporter McKay Coppins. "Pick any moment of high-profile mischief in recent American history, and there's a decent chance Stone has either been involved, or claimed to be," writes Coppins.

Stone has also been called a mudslinger and repulsive who threatened delegates: "We will disclose the hotels and the room numbers of delegates who are directly involved in the steal...If you're from Pennsylvania, we'll tell you who the culprits are. We urge you to visit their hotel room and find them." ("Trump Thugs to 'Stomp the Romp' If Their Godking Gives the Word," by Ben Shapiro. The Daily Wire, 4/19/2016)

Another Trumpist thug is Mike Roman, who is known for voter intimidation schemes. Eight years ago, Roman took a video of two members of the New Black Panther Party standing for one hour at a polling place. Voters, however, were found not to be the recipients of intimidation. Roman has shown his video to whites to scare them, and to provoke "retaliation." ("Trump's Right: The Election is Rigged - to Favor Trump," by Larry Rubin. People's World, 10/19/2016)

Trumpist thugs want to take America back...back to a time when white privilege wasn't threatened. They adhere to an ultra-nationalist form of patriotism, which perverts the latter. Those who are not 100% "American," i.e., those who don't give up their identity and fully assimilate into U.S. culture, are a threat. But the U.S. is a multi-cultural society, and demographics are changing where there is an ascendence of people of color.

With Trumpist thugs seeking out the "Other" at polling places, it might be a good idea to monitor the "Vote Protectors."
