500 Channels and Nothing to Watch

“The Wharton School of Business does not produce dummies,” that’s what my Dad said about Donald Trump as he extolled the virtues of a Trump Presidency, and it got me thinking, what’s in it for The Donald? Strictly speaking, as a business man, why govern. That’s what you pay politicians to do. I can see that Bernie Sanders is on a mission, and his message is loud and clear. Hillary Clinton, baggage and all, could be the first woman president of the United States of America. I get that. I understand their motives. But, Donald Trump, I don’t get that.
At first, I thought, he’s a real estate guy, he could sell-off the Country’s assets and make a fortune. It would be huuuge, It would be the greatest… garage… sale… ever ! The Republicans have been slow-walking this for a while now, but I’ll put it on television and let the American people buy it. I’ll pay-off the debt. I’ll be the Greatest… President… Ever. It’s scary, but I could see this happening.
Then I thought, he’s a man of the people; I like his trade policy. I think? I like his…other… stuff. Not the nasty narcissistic tendencies, or the racist nature of his appeal. Of course, I hate the misogamy thing, and the complete disorganization really bothers me, but he says it like it is, right? He’s got the money. If it’s 8 billion or just a few hundred million, he’s not praying for a job because the rent is due and the kids are hungry. He’s never known that. He’s got all the money he needs and can’t be bought; he’s just going to make America great again.
Even I don’t believe that. My Dad does.
Maybe he’s caught in a whirlwind created by the media, and he can’t get off. Maybe he’s like, hey, I got better things to do. It’s a nice job, but the hours are long, and even if you are the most powerful person in the world, you can’t do what you want to do. So, I’m out.
Maybe, Donald wants to throw in the towel, make an appearance on Dancing with the Stars, and ride off into the sunset to enjoy his family and use his good name to promote world peace across the globe? I didn’t think so either, so what’s up?
Then I figured it out, Donald Trump is a one man voter suppression machine. The Republican legislative efforts to keep brown people, and other Democrats from voting, pales in comparison to The Donald’s ability to turn-off voters. This is Rovian. You put up the two most unpopular candidates in history, have them hurl insults at each other for 6 months until everyone is exhausted and disgusted and they stay home. It’s brilliant! You throw in some vote flipping and pre-programed voting machines and, bam, you control an election. And that’s what it’s all about, controlling an election. The masters of the 24/7 Dog and Pony show bring you, the Donald to divide and obfuscate. Their can be no issues, the Donald is having a press conference. Their can be no journalism, the Bernie-bots threw a chair. And, their can be no examination, look over there, the Donald just tweeted.
So, what’s an electorate to do? I don’t know? Do any of us really believe in any of these people? Who are the masters of the show? I guess I’ll get active and find out, I can’t watch this shit anymore.
