Subject: CAMPAIGN FINANCING & TIME REFORM

Have sent the message below to Pres. Obama, my 3 Congressers, the main newspapers and other publications.
We are now in a Civil War in our country, with half of the people supporting conservatives, reactionaries, the religious right, corporations looking out only for profit and power, biased media, and the Republican party supporting them versus the liberal and independent half of our citizenry and the Democratic party nominally. If we don't do everything we can starting immediately, our Democratic system is doomed. I'm not kidding or exaggerating. The corporations and the previous Bush supporters have now bought the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court and they can do as they please, pervert our Constitution and laws. This is no joke.

It is now more urgent than ever to propose and pass a constitutional amendment embodying the following:

Subject: CAMPAIGN FINANCING & TIME REFORM

ELECTION REFORMS

CAMPAIGN FINANCING AND TIME

For any public office the amounts of contributions to the election campaign of any candidate whether monetary or the equivalent in goods and services shall be limited to:

$100 maximum from any individual; $1'000 maximum from any organization, company or corporation; $25 maximum from anyone under 18 years of age; $20'000 from any political party.

The candidate himself/herself may utilize a maximum of $10'000 of his/her own funds to contribute to the campaign.

Grassroots volunteers who post signs, man telephones, ring doorbells, stuff envelopes, etc. on behalf of a candidate shall be exempt from any limitations on their time or value of their services.

The Television and Radio industries shall provide free and equal time to candidates at all levels in minimum blocks of 5 minutes (to avoid "sound bites" and encourage real discussions of the issues). The amounts of such free time to be set for each election depending on the number of candidates and the level of the office shall be established by mutual agreement between all candidates and the Television and Radio industries, recognizing that the airways belong to the public at large and are used by the industries as a concession. No electioneering on television or radio shall be done outside of the established campaign periods.

The campaign periods shall be limited to a maximum of six (6) months for the offices of President/Vice-President, United States Senator and United States Representative in Congress; a maximum of four (4) months for all other offices. No electioneering or advertising either for or against anyone who might be a candidate in an upcoming election and no contributions or other favors shall be given to or on behalf of such potential candidate by any person, organization, company or corporation outside the established campaign periods.

Any violation of the foregoing limits will disqualify the candidate from that election and incur a felony charge against the contributor, whether an individual or a company, corporation, organization or a political party, or by a potential candidate while the charge will be a misdemeanor for anyone under 18 years of age.

There shall be no financing of any part of a candidate's campaign by the government, Federal, State or local.
