(for Father Roy Bourgeois)

“Hope has two beautiful daughters. Their names are anger and courage; anger at the way things are, and courage to see that they do not remain the way they are.” St Augustine.

Blessed is to be Korean Catholic,
for I’ve learned to be living history.
Just as being blessed, we’re a hooked story.
As being a candle, I’m not Saul vitriolic.

I’m a dim light praying at the Tabernacle.
Blessed is to be Korean, I’ll see hope.
Blessed is to be American, its scope.
So thorn and petal consumes me---intellectual.

My story is history. I learn and pray
but never kiss and tell. Such is being pure.
But as the Advent candle lives as sure
as ashes for the Holy Innocents, I stay

at God’s house. I stay for our God.
I stay for injustice is a story to be love
for love’s sake. Love is not an alcove.
Agape has no borders. Agape is sod.

Here I am God, calling your name.
Oscar, Dorothy, Alicia Damon,
do you not know my name? I went and came
in Your justice and amore, so I’m a world’s sin.

Blessed is to be peacekeeper,
and thus be a candle of God. Blessed are
Saul turned to Paul, for theirs is heaven.
Rejoice and be glad, but sad on this rex Vatican.

As one stands on hope, while power can elope
with its Saul, one must stand firm as ash,
pliant as a candle’s flame, tough as thorns, wish
for no borders, and
Beatitude’s envelope.
