(1.) Christianity as Practiced Today

Authentic Christianity as practiced by the Catholic Church, the National Protestant Leadership, the Old Testament and the GOP is broken. My animated movie, AT JESUS’ SIDE, is the best children’s movie ever made about Jesus. I am one of only 14 people to ever produce a feature film about Jesus that includes a Biblically correct Crucifixion and the Resurrection, even though it is has talking animals. Because it will deliver peace, the message of the film is Jesus’ most important lesson for mankind “Forgive thy enemies”. AT JESUS' SIDE is all about the art and power of forgiveness.

Jesus would be horrified today by the political behavior of many of the Evangelical and Fundamentalist Christians, who cheered for the hypothetical death of a man who had no health insurance at a GOP debate. Jesus would of course forgive them all unconditionally. His message of unconditional love and unconditional forgiveness is being rewritten by the conservatives as “I am doing very well, if you are not doing well, it is your problem not our problem.” What happened to “Love thy neighbor as thyself?” Ironically, even as they don’t believe in Evolution, the GOP seems to act more and more like Darwin and survival of the fittest.

The Catholic Church is almost beyond redemption with their ongoing 50-year cover up of their constant problem with pedophilia. It is totally unnatural to ask a man to suppress his natural sex drive for his whole life. Any natural drive that human beings suppress will come back to generate aberrant behavior. I believe that the human race’s exclusive reliance on patriarchal leadership is wrong for the human race and especially wrong for any religion.

In addition, being totally against birth control on a planet whose single biggest problem is overpopulation is a major sin. However, using birth control is not a sin at all. The Catholic Church of today is totally out of touch with reality.

(3.) Christianity as Practiced by the National Protestant Leadership

The National Protestant Leadership is almost as patriarchal but instead of their focus being on sex, it is on money and politics. Rick Warren and Joel Osteen are good examples of the focus on money and politics. Osteen mentions abundance and money more than he mentions the name of Jesus. Warren once justified starting the Iraq war for George W. Bush with passages only from the Old Testament because there is nothing in the New Testament that supports war of any kind. The GOP also falsely claims to be the party of Jesus.

Now with Israel threatening to bomb Iran, the insane Protestant belief in Rapture is back “in the air now.” Rapture is a belief that God will transport a true believer’s body (not just his spirit) from earth to heaven at the second-coming of Christ. Rapture is not even mentioned in the Bible; it is totally bizarre as well as anti-science.

(4.) Christianity as Practiced by the Old Testament

The Old Testament is a central problem for Christians. It is based on Jewish moral stories, called Midrash, told around the campfire many centuries ago. Midrash is a word generally used for any written or oral commentary on a biblical text. This method of interpretation was eventually expanded to provide scriptural pretexts to justify oral tradition. So it is clearly not historical fact and describes an alien God who is angry and jealous most of the time.

For far too long, priests and preachers have completely ignored the vicious criminal acts that the Old Testament promotes. According to the Old Testament, I could put my daughters out to prostitution or slavery. The so-called “God” of the Old Testament makes Osama Bin Laden look like a Boy Scout. This God, according to the Bible, is directly responsible for many mass-murders, rapes, pillage, plunder, slavery, child abuse and killing, not to mention the killing of unborn children. This type of criminal behavior whould shock any moral person.

Even in its first chapter, Genesis, the Old Testament that is supposed to be historical fact, has a major factual error. In Genesis, it insists that woman is made from man (Adam’s Rib). It is a biological fact that all human fetuses are female for their first seven weeks until the males begin to make testosterone. So man is really made from woman! Man is the hybrid and it is very unfortunate that patriarchy has dominated world leadership for almost all of human history, a history of almost constant male warfare!

(5.) Christianity as Practiced by the GOP

First of all, Jesus would be a progressive liberal by any rational account. He would not practice or believe in Conservatism. Biblically documented teachings of Jesus
Christ clearly show that Jesus is a Liberal. His philosophy, based in compassion, equality,
inclusion, forgiveness, tolerance, peace and most importantly love, is 100% Liberal.

Psychological Science has consistently found a correlation between conservative beliefs, racism and a low IQ. A new study finds the exact same correlation. LiveScience has a write up based on communications with the principal author, Professor Gordon Hodson, of Brock University in Ontario. A previous study by Hodson’s also group found a link between less-educated people and higher incidences of prejudice.

For 20 years we have seen the growing domination of the radical right wing evangelicals on TV, on the radio and in the news, newspapers and magazines and in politics, claiming to own a virtual monopoly on Jesus. They have redefined what He meant and used His name to advance their radical right wing social, business, governmental, political and military agenda, or as President Bush called it their just and righteous Crusade. I strongly object and totally disagree!

In reality, Rush Limbaugh is now the very nasty de facto leader of the GOP. No one dares to take Rush on when he talks like a total idiot. He just called a Georgetown college student, who wanted birth control as a part of her health care program, a slut and a prostitute. Rush even suggested that she should do sex videos and post them on the Internet. Even with this evil kind of slander, none of the GOP Presidential candidates would call him out. Santorum excused it as entertainment. Romney’s lame response was “I would have used different words.” Gingrich and Palin actually supported Rush’s position.

Rick Santorum is a Catholic who sounds more like Satan than Jesus with his angry proclamations. A conservative Presbyterian blogger John Schroeder wrote, Santorum’s “truly intolerant comments concerning Obama pretty well disqualify him from holding office. It is simply not the president’s job to be judging whose theology is correct and whose is not.”

(6.) An Animated Movie for Children about the Art and Power of Forgiveness

AT JESUS' SIDE is the perfect movie to introduce your 4, 5, and 6 year old to Jesus. This is the best film about Jesus for families and children that no one has ever heard of because the National Christian Leadership will not endorse, support, help or even mention our movie. They don't believe in the message of this film, which is "Forgive thy enemies.” The Southern Baptists banned the movie because it intimates that animals have souls (which they do).

The Dove Foundation gave our movie 4 out of 5 stars writing: “Although the events regarding the animals’ interaction with Jesus are obviously fictionalized, Jesus is portrayed as he is in the Bible, loving and compassionate, and true events are portrayed such as the Triumphal Entry, overturning of the money changers' tables, and his false arrest, trial, crucifixion and resurrection. AT JESUS' SIDE is all about the art and power of forgiveness. For eight years, Robert Enright, a professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has led an initiative in Belfast, Northern Ireland to teach forgiveness to first graders as part of their elementary curriculum. Enright’s theories are based on the conviction that forgiveness can reduce anger, which reduces depression and anxiety and leads to stronger academic achievement and more peaceful social behavior, which are compounded by externalities such as poverty, prejudice and violence.

Teaching the art and power of forgiveness to children may be both the best and the fastest way to positively change our world. I believe the Belfast experiment should be expanded to first grade classes in every elementary school in the world. The results speak for themselves, as violent crime in Belfast has fallen dramatically in the past ten years in areas where forgiveness education was taught.

(7.) The Way Authentic Christianity is Practiced Today

I believe that there are many pathways to God. The underlying (probably very naïve) goal of my work is the ultimate unification of all world religions. What is clear after examining religion and mysticism in depth is that all the great masters, saints, holy men, holy women and sons of God have pointed down the same path. There are some differences depending on the historical background and the intelligence and needs of their followers, but the central truths are almost identical.

Unfortunately, the followers and devotees of these great men and women have often disagreed. This fossilization of the truth has sometimes resulted in the killing of millions of innocents in the name of this “holy” misinterpretation (the Crusades, the Inquisition, Holy Wars, Witch Trials, Religious Terrorism and 9/11).

I am a mystic Christian. The Christian mystics were persecuted by the early Church and forced to go underground in medieval Europe. Their one remaining detailed text, which was not destroyed by the Catholic Church, is the Nag Hammadi Text discovered in 1947.

Western confusion over the Holy Spirit and the relation of God and Man is well expressed in our confusion over the words Jesus and Christ. “The Christ” is a generic term; it refers to the function of the Holy Spirit, the guide who appears in the flesh. Jesus was one of the specifics of this phenomenon. This Implicate function must have its explicate form. So, again, Jesus wasn’t the Christ, the Christ was Jesus—as he was the Buddha, Moses, etc. By the very structure of reality, the function of the Christ is always here and always coming again. The Christ Jesus was unique, as he was born enlightened (so the Catholics are correct, if Jesus was born enlightened, then his mother Mary must have attained enlightenment, too).

The Christ itself or the Holy Being of Light is the portal that all human souls must pass through at death, not just Christians. In John 3:16 Jesus said that “the only way to the father is through me.” He means this literally, as all souls must go through the Holy Being of Light or what I call the "Christ Portal" after death.

Today there is a major schism in the Christian faith (also in Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, etc.). This schism is between using mysticism to become enlightened, or all human beings have the potential to reach the internal state of being that Jesus was born with and Buddha and Moses attained, and literalism where the Bible is the word of God plus historical fact and that making the historical Jesus and Son of God our Savior is the only path to God.

The mystic belief, like mine, is that all religions have originated from a universal spirituality referred to as Unitary Consciousness, or the Ancient Wisdom. “The mystical beliefs of these secret societies were based on the Hermetic maxim ‘as above-so below’ which teaches that the natural world is a material reflection of the spiritual.

It forms the esoteric basis for the Ancient Egyptian Mysteries, Gnosticism, Esoteric Christianity, Judaism’s Cabbala (Kabbalah), the Hermetic tradition, alchemy and societies such as the Templars, Freemasons and Rosicrucians. The goal of all of these philosophies is to lead the individual from material darkness to the spiritual light of understanding.

(8.) The True Origin of Satan, "Original Sin" and the Christian Belief that Jesus Was Sent by God to Save the Human Race from Our Sins.

Even after I produced my animated movie for children and families about the art and power of forgiveness, AT JESUS' SIDE, I had still not become at all comfortable with the concept of Satan, "Original Sin" and the Christian belief that Jesus was sent by God to save the human race from our sins. For many years, I thought I was a good person like most humans, so Original Sin must not exist.

But I was recently rereading the work of George Gurdjieff, the famous Russian Philosopher. He believed that the evolution of human beings might have gone off course and that our mammalian brains had not properly married with our reptilian brains before we evolved such a large frontal cortex.

Take into consideration the following facts: (a.) Human beings and apes are the only two species that sometimes enjoy killing (and even eating) their own species. (b.) Most people continue to exist within a tribe, sect, gang, race or mentality, unable to overcome hatred or prejudice against other groups. This frequently manifests itself as violence. (c.) Human beings killed over 100 million of their fellow beings in the 20th Century. (d) For decades, the US Nuclear Policy had an acronym of MAD, Mutual Assured Destruction.

So Man’s confusion, his lack of mental unity, his unnecessary suffering, his immorality, in fact everything that characterizes the sorrow of the human condition, come about because the centers of man’s perception are wrongly related, wrongly functioning, and because man does not see or care to know this about himself.

So Jesus was sent by God to warn mankind that our evolution was possibly faulty and all human beings have a strong tendency to sin against each other.
