Cantor begins: "George W. Bush should be arrested for his role in waterboarding, Amnesty International says, and his trip to Africa presents an opportunity for that. 'International law requires that there be no safe haven for those responsible for torture; Ethiopia, Tanzania and Zambia must seize this opportunity to fulfill their obligations and end the impunity George W. Bush has so far enjoyed,' the human rights organization said. (It's not the first time.)"

Arrest Bush, Amnesty International Urges Africa

By Matt Cantor, Newser

02 December 11

eorge W. Bush should be arrested for his role in waterboarding, Amnesty International says, and his trip to Africa presents an opportunity for that. “International law requires that there be no safe haven for those responsible for torture; Ethiopia, Tanzania and Zambia must seize this opportunity to fulfill their obligations and end the impunity George W. Bush has so far enjoyed,” the human rights organization said. (It's not the first time.)

Bush is in Africa to promote awareness of HIV/AIDS as well as breast and cervical cancer. While Amnesty applauds that goal, “this cannot lessen the damage to the fight against torture caused by allowing someone who has admitted to authorizing waterboarding to travel without facing the consequences prescribed by law,” the statement said. Bush's trip coincides with World AIDS Day today, and he has been receiving much praise for the global AIDS initiative he launched as president.

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

Gee, can't we find it in our hearts to give amnesty to GWB and his poodle?

Nope.

I just sent another contribution to AI.

YAYYYY! I believe amnesty has just about run out, for Baby Bush. Why does it seem ludicrous for this stupid mass murderer to be in Africa in the cause of Aids and breast Cancer, when MILLIONS have died of his kiddy-cowboy disease of shoot-'em-up dementia?
He belongs UNDER the jail, in a cell with Dick Cheney and the rest of their war-games nitwit accomplices. NOTHING would do more to revive the decent spirit of this country.

That would be a start, next arrest the heads of the major banks and put them in jail and through away the key

Maybe because he promised money for AIDS, then didn't send it?

I think the whole lot of them (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, etc.) should be imprisoned at Guantanamo ... with the current occupants as their jailers.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will also now sent a donation to Amnesty International.

The opportunity exists, yes. But, there have been other countries who have engaged in indictments - but the Republican Party and mommy and daddy literally bought them off. Perhaps the countries named in this article might possess more ethics in their constitutions than the others did. Let's hope.

"Frustrated with the lack of economic progress under the Weimar Republic, the Junkers, or manufacturing conglomerates, secretly supported the Nazis, who advocated rearmament. Some bankers also supported the Nazis, thinking they would get the freedom to trade they could not get under Weimar law. This union of capitalism and Nazism was key to giving the Nazi Party the funding to gain seats in the Reichstag and eventually control all of Germany."

Prior to the American entry into WWII "Prescott Bush was director of Union Banking Corporation. Union Banking Corporation helped to finance Hitler’s regime. The Concentration Camps of Nazi Germany were labor camps that the Nazis used to make products for their regime as well as for sale to raise money. Prescott profited directly from the Auschwitz labor camp."

Milasia just convicted GWB on "crimes agaisnt peace." He won't be traveling to Milasia. Wasn't he convicted for war crimes by Spain last year? Didn't he also have to cancel a trip to Sweden (or some other country) because he would have been arrested? Here's a good site: IndictBushNow.o rg

It just shows how powerful the Bush family is around the world. Anyone else would have Sendbeen arrested by now. He wouldn't be ther unless he thought he had nothing to worry about. Actions speak louder than words. When the words and actions don't match...there's a problem. Is there no place on earth who is able to follow the law and do their job? I guess not.

It may take time but there is no statutory limit on crimes against humanity. It took over three decades for Pinochet to be brought to justice. With the US so quickly losing influence and standing in the world (thanks in large part to Bushco) there may come a time when ethical jurists in other countries will feel emboldened to go after Bush/Cheney. I hope to see it in my (babyboomer) lifetime.

There may even come a time when a future president will put them on trial. As you say, the War Crimes they have committed have no statute of limitations, even if their domestic crimes against the Constitution never go to trial.

Of course, the Supreme Court should all be impeached for even appointing him, as they violated Article II, Section 1 by even hearing the case, let alone ruling against the Supreme Court of the State of Florida. The method of choosing of Electors is the one thing that the Constitution _specifically_ gives to the states. Constitutionall y, the Federal Courts had no jurisdiction in any of the cases brought before them related to Florida and the 2000 recount.

America and its so-called "Democracy" is the laughing stock of the intelligent free world. It watches as our uniformed paramilitary forces club, mace, and mass arrest our citizens who are merely exercising their supposedly guarded constitutional rights in this so called democracy. Bush lite, along with the rest of his war criminal gang will never see justice. Too powerful, too wealthy, too connected.
This election season, hold your nose if you must, but under no scenario vote for any Republican candidate. not so much anything resembling a Blue Dog Democrat either.

EVERY comment so far is anti-Bush! I signed every petition I could find to get "Dubya" and Cheney impeached during his horrid administration' s reign, and I signed every petition I could find to get him indicted after his EVIL presidency! IT IS WAY PAST TIME TO HAVE HIM ROTTING BEHIND BARS WHERE HE BELONGS!
And waterboarding wasn't his only impeachable offense!

The Earth Constitution's World Judiciary system expands the reach and enforcement to catch war criminals, and other world crimes. A "Collegium of World Judges" is being proposed next week by the World Constitution & Parliament Association during the Chief Justices Conference in Lucknow, India. The Earth Constitution has sparked an emerging Earth Federation Movement (EFM).

Whoever arrests a former US president better get ready to be bombed and invaded. After starvation from sanctions, of course.

Although I don't believe in Capital Punishment (and don't believe in jailing people for minor non-violent acts either) - I would rejoice if some(body) would bring "W" down (in any manner) AND MAKE HIM TELL WHO HELPED him on the destruction of the USA.

But that is only a dream-wish bc he has so much money (obtained by many savory actions - read the Bush history online!) - it will never happen in my life. BUT I believe some day (even if after death) the man will be burned in effigy! JUST LIKE HITLER! (BTW, "W"'s granddaddy worked WITH Hitler before/during WWII while on payroll of our government)

When Cheney/ Bush/ or any of their relatives appear on my TV screen I dive for the channel changer -- else I'll get sick.

VOTE 2012 - vote Dem Vote Obama. It is our ONLY chance. The GOP/TP have shown their colors! (Not a pun)

Bush has that smirk I would just love to see someone wipe it off his face.

I agree giraffe, I dont sincerely think we will see him come to justice in our lifetime.

GOP stands for Greedy One Percent!

NEVER EVER VOTE REPUBLICAN!!
