Trump's WhiteHouse.Gov Disappears Civil Rights, Climate Change, LGBT Rights

By Justin Miller, The Daily Beast

20 January 17

The minute Donald Trump was sworn into office, the White House’s web site changed—dramatically.

hiteHouse.gov immediately wiped pages on LGBT rights, civil rights, climate change, and health care from its “issues” section after Donald Trump took the oath of office.

The page on climate change was replaced with a page entitled “An America First Energy Plan” that ignores climate change entirely and says, “President Trump is committed to eliminating harmful and unnecessary policies such as the Climate Action Plan and the Waters of the U.S. rule.”

The new “America First Foreign Policy” page made no mention of Russia or China, insteading discussing the defeat of ISIS and the renegotiation of NAFTA and other trade deals. “If our partners refuse a renegotiation that gives American workers a fair deal, then the President will give notice of the United States’ intent to withdraw from NAFTA,” the page read. The same language was repeated on the new “Trade Deals Working for All Americans” page on Whitehouse.gov.

The page on civil rights was replaced with a page entitled “Standing Up For Our Law Enforcement Community” that replaces concerns with how police act with a demand for more cops. It also paints predominantly black inner cities as shooting galleries.

“In our nation’s capital, killings have risen by 50 percent,” the page claims, which is false: homicides in Washington, D.C. were down in 2016 over 2015.

Trump’s campaign website was more robust, featuring pages on a variety of issues and including press releases related to the black community, like "DONALD J. TRUMP’S NEW DEAL FOR BLACK AMERICA." Now the words “black” or “African-American” do not appear once in any policy sheets on WhiteHouse.gov.

In contrast, President Obama's WhiteHouse.gov page on his first day in office featured a slate of issues he campaigned on; Trump's White House page doesn't even have a policy page on his signature campaign issue: immigration.

Maybe that will be included in the updates from Trump visitors can sign up for.

WhiteHouse.gov isn't the only part of the executive branch unfilled: hundreds of appointments have still not been named and the Trump transition team announced Thursday it would keep 50 essential State Department and national security personnel.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

On the local news last night was a story about how the local police were looking forward to Trump taking office...I wonder why?

You know, with all the money they have and the supposed superior educations they've all received where are their brains?

Not the smartest (but definitely the most greedy) tools in the shed.

Never say they're dumb, their acts are very intentional. Always. Beware.

Intentionality does not preclude stupidity -- as I fear we are about to find out big time.

Pres Trump, the bull sh*t king, is at it again, cutting away a climate action plan, a clean waters program and demanding more cops to control crime while painting black inner cities as shooting galleries. The Trumpster is a bit much.

"A bit"?!?!

When when when when when will Trump be called to account for his endless contradictions and lies and complete Dunning-Kruger Effect behavior?

Trump is "a bit much?" On the contrary, he is a bit too small to care about the complex and layered realities of this world. His proclivity for "a deal" will soon do him in. If he follows through on his intention of allowing gas and oil development at a fast pace, he will do us all in. Check your methane and mercury levels.

Fair minded Americans are in for the political ride of our lives. When I listened to trump this morning it was like taking a stab in the heart. The raw fear one gets when one is looking at present danger up close. It is uncomfortable and was unnecessary. Never since I became aware of presidential elections in 1948 have I had real fear of any US politicians. This stinks.

Trump's inauguration isn't trivial - it's not something just to be entertained by - it's seriously going to impact the future of our families and, even more so, our world - not just the lower financial class in our own country, who will be further hurt by his ignorant and/or selfish policies - it will hurt everyone except for the top oligarchs of the world - including those in our own country who only look to take from the disadvantaged - in for-profit prisons, for-profit schools and colleges, for-profit medical care, for-profit security forces, and the for-profit military industrial establishment ,,, and in elimination of public education, public healthcare, public assistance, public anything, except for profit from sponging off disappearing public programs. Under Trump, we'd rather incarcerate than educate.

& see:
Canadians traveling to Women's March denied US entry after sharing plans
After telling border agents their plans to march, group’s cars were searched and phones examined, and each person was fingerprinted and had their photo taken

& excerpt:
“The first thing he [border agent] asked us point blank is, ‘Are you anti- or pro-Trump?’”
What does a border officer have to do with partisan politics? Might as well be Soviet Russia.
