Sanders Has Highest Approval in Senate

By Neetzan Zimmerman, The Hill

25 November 15

en. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is far and away the most popular senator among his own constituents, a new Morning Consult poll reveals.

The veteran lawmaker, who is also a Democratic candidate for president, scored an 83 percent approval rating among voters in Vermont.

His 13 percent disapproval rating also ranks as the lowest in the country.

Sanders's closest rival for the top spot among Democrats is fellow Vermonter Sen. Patrick Leahy, who received a commendable 71 percent approval rating with just 22 percent of voters disapproving of his performance.

The most popular Republican senator, among the GOP 2016 field, is Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Fifty-two percent of Texans approve of his work in Congress, while 32 disapprove.

Cruz is closely followed by Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) with 51 percent approval; Marco Rubio (Fla.) with 50 percent approval; and Rand Paul (Ky.) with 48 percent approval.

The only senator with a disapproval rating higher than his approval rating? Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who is disliked by 52 percent of his constituents.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

I reside in Colorado, and, like sooooo many others across the U.S., are in total agreement with Vermont's 83% approval of Bernie Sanders. Here's why:

With Pres. Andrew Jackson hanging in my mama's family tree, and mama's father a great judge who passed onto his kids and grandkids a stronger than strong desire for 'liberty and justice for all', I have for years, i.e. since age seven, joined with family members, mama most certainly often leading the way, in fighting with courage and determination for liberty and justice for all. At a seven, I accompanied mama as she effectively did what another Parks woman, Rosa, was doing, at the same time Rosa was doing it - actively taking on Jim Crow laws.

Bernie is, like mama and my daddy and his 'fightin' Irish' family, an amazingly ethical, compassionate, brilliant people serving politician, His people serving method of operating has been in place for decades, while so many other pols. of any and all political bents are now nothing but self serving, bought off puppet clowns of the 1%ers. Unlike all these bought off pols.....

SANDERS PANDERS NOT, TO THE 1% - WIN, BERNIE, WIN !!!

Rita, regarding your quote:" With Pres. Andrew Jackson hanging in my mama's family tree", I have to say- Realizng how barbaric Jackson was toward indigenous people, I might not want to admit my connection to him. Besides that, your endorsement of Bernie Sanders is wonderful!
The only way mainstreet Americans will profit from next fall's election is if Sanders is the DFL choice for President AND the people get out and elect him!

This is good to see. Sanders has a lot of support across the nation. Obama won with a fake "hope and change" campaign. I think Sanders is genuine "hope and change."

I wonder what anyone would think of a Sandars / Rand Paul ticket. Paul is good on foreign affaris and keeping the US out of war, while Sanders is good on domestic policies. I know this would never happen, but why not think outside of the same old boxes prepared for us by the Demublicans.

Absolutely no to Rand Paul for anything. I need Medicare and Social Security to survive. He wants to end them. You might call that selfish, but I don't care. Most of my life I have voted liberal for other people, not myself. I will not support policies that will kill me, period. Sanders would never go for him as his running mate anyway. Domestic economic policy is too important to him to get hook up with a libertarian.

I live in Arizona and have long thought of Bernie as MY Senator as well as he represents my values and positions, something no AZ Senator has ever done.

I live in DC and don't have Senators, so I have also adopted Bernie as MY senator.

I have never found it so exhilarating, through the last fourteen (14) Presidential nominating campaigns, as it is to be a Bernie Sanders supporter today.

Never before has such a 'contest' offered me a clearer separation of transparency and commitment to a defined expressed intent to LEAD rather than 'oversee' the Executive Function of governing the United States of America.

He makes it easy to be proud to be an American.
