Monsanto's Roundup, Glyphosate Linked to Parkinson's and Similar Diseases

By Elizabeth Renter, NaturalSociety

31 October 12

e already know the links between herbicides and sterility in men, birth defects, mental illness, obesity and possibly cancer - but now we have something new to add to the nasty effects of pesticides list - Parkinson's disease and similar neurodegenerative conditions.

New research, published in the journal Neurotoxicology and Teratology, indicates a connection between a component in Monsanto's Roundup and Parkinson's disease. Glyphosate is said to induce cell death, with frightening repercussions.

GreenMedInfo.com reports the study was investigating the links between herbicides (weed killers) and brain damage. These chemicals, the study's authors say, "have been recognized as the main environmental factor associated with neurodegenerative disorders," like Parkinson's.

Parkinson's disease is a degenerative nervous system disease. It slowly progresses as time goes on with common symptoms like tremors, rigidity, difficulty walking, poor posture, lack of movement, and slowness of movement, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.

The CDC reports Parkinson's as the 14th leading cause of death in the U.S. In 2010 (the last year for which data is available), there was 4.6% increase in the number of deaths attributed to this disease. One has to wonder if there is a connection between this jump and the ever-growing prevalence of herbicides like Roundup in our air, food, and water.

Studies indicate that glyphosate is toxic to human DNA "at concentrations diluted 450-fold lower than used in agricultural applications." Worded differently - the levels considered safe by our government are 450 times the levels at which glyphosate has been found to damage and destroy human DNA. Yes, it's that serious.

One case study found a woman who was exposed to glyphosate in the workplace for 3 years at a chemical factory. She wore gloves and a face mask. She was initially a healthy, middle-aged women. But, she developed "rigidity, slowness, and resting tremor in all four limbs." She was also experiencing severe dizziness, weakness, and blurred vision. And hers isn't the only such case.

What's so scary about the growing body of research on Monsanto's Roundup, its components, and their presence in nearly everything around us, is that the federal government refuses to recognize the risk. Despite a growing concern on an international level, the powers-that-be are seemingly content to turn their eyes while the people demand accountability and safe food.

Until pesticides and herbicides are no longer used on a mass scale, the growth of these diseases will likely continue. Eat 100% organic produce whenever possible to bypass exposure to destructive pesticides and herbicides.

We are concerned about a recent drift towards vitriol in the RSN Reader comments section. There is a fine line between moderation and censorship. No one likes a harsh or confrontational forum atmosphere. At the same time everyone wants to be able to express themselves freely. We'll start by encouraging good judgment. If that doesn't work we'll have to ramp up the moderation.

General guidelines: Avoid personal attacks on other forum members; Avoid remarks that are ethnically derogatory; Do not advocate violence, or any illegal activity.

Remember that making the world better begins with responsible action.

"federal government refuses to recognize the risk" - the same as D-Con
Monsanto lawyers have more resources than government. This is sick, money culture, all other values are secondary.

"Super-toxic" rat poisons kill owls, other wildlife
Owls are dying under gruesome circumstances, bleeding to death from stomach hemorrhages in an agonizing and days-long decline. The culprit: An extra-potent class of rodenticides that has flooded the market in recent decades. Six of 164 dead barn owls, barred owls and great horned owls in a western Canada study had pesticide levels high enough to kill them outright, while readings in up to 30 percent of the others appeared toxic and seemed likely to handicap owls. The study is the latest evidence amassed by researchers that poses an unsettling question: Are we willing to poison owls and a variety of other wild animals in order to fight rats?

www.tumblr.com/tagged/animal-rights-activistsHide video. On October 2nd 2012, world farm animals day, three animal rights activists in Israel got branded with a hot steel brand, in the same way farm animals ... and we are sending 3 billion + per year to this state? SICK.

In CA - vote YES to insure labeling GMO on all products - and in CA: vote "NO" on both school props because the money collected goes into general funds. Vote "NO" on prop to eliminate big money in our politics because the fine print EXCLUDES the 1% big businesses who will then buy what is left of CA democracy. I.E. be care to read ALL fine print or go to DEM headquarters in your area to SEE how Koch (etc) are invading a most liberal state.

VOTE OBAMA/BIDEN and straight DEM -- get off your duff and get all you know to go to polls and VOTE

And NO on Prop 34 (?) to eliminate the death penalty in CA, which we can't afford, aside from the moral issue.

The contamination of people, with chemicals, has a long history. I’m a combat vet from the Vietnam War and suffer from being contaminated with the chemical Agent Orange (AO). Not many people know about Admiral Zumwalt’s 1990 report, to the VA, on (AO); however, I would suggest that each of you that read this click on the link provided and read the report carefully, sending it to as many people as you possibly can.

I’m a 60% disabled vet, who has had Coronary Artery Disease for years. When (AO) was put on the VA’s care and compensation list, a couple years ago, I submitted a claim. Last November I got my VA rating, on it; yep we acknowledge and accept your Coronary Artery Disease as service connected and our rating is 10% non-compensable . Therefore, my service connected Coronary Artery Disease warrants a spit in the eye by the VA.

Under II. AGENT ORANGE USAGE IN VIETNAM at number 5 there is a letter from Dr. James R. Clary to Tom Daschle who was a ranking democratic senator at that time. The paragraph that Admiral Zumwalt includes in his report, to VA, tells the tale of all tales.. Knowledge such as this, given to the people, may bring enough heat on this chimical thing to get some political action; and maybe some congress members can be sent home for good.

Please do not let anything I have said reflect negatively on the Zumwalt report.

I sympathize all the more that I have seen what AO does in southern Vietnam to this day, from deformed vegetation in the delta (particularly between Can Thó and the Cambodian border) and in the kids one sees begging in Hanoí streets.

To this day.

The same if not worse is happening with depleted uranium and other toxic materials such as white phosphor. We poison our own troops, we poison the local civilians and we poison our planet.

Maybe one day people will realize Earth has no lifeboats.

Paul Scott: Thank YOU for your service and my apologies for our government's role in your health issues. (AO) and (GMO0 and other chemicals forced upon us should be punished. Our Military has reigned too long and too wildly unchecked.

Great, scary article.

RE Link between pesticides and Alzhiemer's Disease. There's a lot of groundbreaking info in this interview with Dr. Stephaie Seneff who has done some amazing research on this topic. http://vimeo.com/65914121

Also, everyone please watch the new film called GMO/OMG, opening at your local independent theater.
