Monsanto GM Corn Is Creating Super Worms
06 September 12
gricultural giant Monsanto Company has risen to the top of the corporate food chain largely thanks to its seeds. These are no ordinary seeds - they have been genetically modified (GM) to withstand and even produce herbicides and pesticides. Monsanto's GM corn and soybean seeds have become so widespread over the past two decades that now, a new crop of "superweeds" have evolved to resist these potent chemicals. Farmers then have little choice but to buy Monsanto's beefed up seeds in an arms race with nature.
Now, the EPA is launching a review of one of Monsanto's corn strains engineered to produce the natural pesticide Bt. As the agency told Bloomberg, "There is mounting evidence raising concerns that insect resistance is developing in parts of the corn belt," where Monsanto's corn dominates the fields. Root worms exposed to the corn's toxin seem to have become immune to it, breeding an unprecedented colony of superworms that are bound to spread throughout the entire Midwest.
Meanwhile, Monsanto recently released a new sweet corn variety containing the Bt pesticide. And for the first time, Monsanto will market this corn as fresh produce, rather than an ingredient for processed foods. Although Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and General Mills have refused to carry the corn, Walmart will start stocking the GM sweet corn in the coming months, without any label to let consumers know what they are buying.
And Monsanto hopes to keep consumers in the dark. The company recently spent $4.2 million trying to kill a November ballot initiative in California that would require labeling on food products containing genetically modified ingredients. Proposition 37 would bring the state in line with Japan, China, the European Union, and Australia, which already require labels on genetically modified foods. 91 percent of Americans support GMO labeling.
Opponents of Proposition 37 claim GMOs are harmless and would unfairly bias people toward the organic food industry. Though there has been no conclusive evidence that eating GMOs leads to health problems, the FDA does not require safety studies before approving them and Monsanto has lobbied the USDA to reject any and all outside studies when considering applications for new strains. Leaving health aside, the onslaught of superweeds and superworms alone should afford Californians the chance to decide what types of food they want to support.

I am more worried about the ground, ground water contamination. The first crop is not the killer, it is constant use of these seeds, chemical wash off and into the ground they go.
Rains, Ice/Snow Melt then takes these materials and follows the path to Wells, Water that is used by millions.
I guess most of you were not reading when Love Canal happened but Lois Marie Gibbs is still going State to State, Town to Town to let people know that what happened in the 40's, 50's, 60's is worse today because the Chemicals are more toxic.
I guess all of you forget also what Chemicals in Warfare have done to areas, water, innocent victims and unborn babies. Agent Orange was supposed to be done with but like lead it is back and with a vengance. How many products do you buy that are safe for a child, animal, You? Almost none if the come from China.
Physics is fine, books are great...but I live with reality If I eat enough poison I will destroy my liver, therefore my immune will die. I do not want that legacy for my great grandchildren so I will continue to fight another 50 years, I am 63.

The other point to make is that the reason we have resistance now is that farmers didn't follow recommendations for leaving "refugia" where susceptible worms could breed. Those areas where the recommendations were followed aren't having problems with resistant nematodes.
Monanto, DuPont, Dow are Chemical Manufacturers.. .they have no business dowsing my food seeds into chemical than saying Vote for Republicans. I have the right to Quality of Life according to Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
If you want to poison yourself and family, that is your decision. You have no right making that decision for millions of Americans, Mexicans, South Americans, Europeans, Asians and I hope we get Africa to send those seeds back.
When the above Chemical Manufacturers sit down and eat 2-4d with their families and the families of the Politicians who cheer them on I would also invite FDA, Dept of AG then I will believe those seeds are safe.
I can pop my popcorn seeds and know I can safely give them to a child. I can take my soybeans and eat them. As long as one seed is colored with Poison it doesnot grow in my garden.
By the way there are seedsavers all over the world. Heirloom seeds have been passed down for centuries or we would have no food at all. Right now Quakers have saved a Red Corn seed from Indians.
Ignorance is not Bliss. Glad you have money for Doctor bills
Thous Shalt Not Kill is the Most Important Commandment...i t is ignored the most.
There are no amendments to this commandment for any faith, individual or corporation. Chemically encrusting seeds is redundant. Fertilizers of pure toxic chemicals is stupidity. I feel no sorrow for farmers that refuse to pay attnetion. They have abused a Welfare System, Refused to Read the Chemical Warnings. Now they are Ranting. We may need them but the Commercial Farms...they do not care if they kill you, your stock it is about money. Soon you will all be eating shit...in fact you do now I bet most of you do not even realize how many of you are eating human waste that was allowed as fertilizer Some of it was never regulated either. We found heavy levels of mercury, arsenic, cadmium and good ol Lead. Bon Apetit
I see. So you're a vegetarian. Except, er . . . harvesting crops kills them.
I hope I'm wrong about this, but suspect I'm not. The truth has become so elusive! So, I just do without corn.
Support local farms, they are responsible.
Ask them what corn they grow. Start showing Safeway, Walmart and others You refuse to buy Poison. Agent Orange and other chemicals are Poison.
Get friends and neighbors, relatives to speak up also. Write your editor, senator, representative. Send a petition, but make a copy first. You can make a difference, be proud of that.
Perhaps this is how we will feed Africa, poisoned worms.
Such great prolifers out there, eh?
Several decades ago, Margaret Thatcher claimed: "There is no alternative". She was referring to capitalism. Today, this negative attitude still persists.
I would like to offer an alternative to capitalism for the American people to consider. Please click on the following link. It will take you to an essay titled: "Home of the Brave?" which was published by the Athenaeum Library of Philosophy:

I just don't know if they have tested everything enough to know what the consequences will end up being. If they just trust that their GM's will not have any consequences, they're delusional. If they know and aren't saying, they're hypocritical, if not sociopathic.
Perhaps they make more money at this time selling their corn, than they do paying settlements in court. That's a win for them, even though it's a loss for everyone else.
The business they and every other corporation should be in is - getting to the whole truth, not just the part of the truth that makes them look good, or, at least, doesn't make them look bad.
And if there ARE consequences, they need to hold themselves accountable. However, if they are making money hand over fist, and they have no consequences that they are made to deal with, why should they change? If there are negative consequences, we, the people, need to make sure they have to deal with them.
Sounds like an open and shut case. So what's the holdup?
Oh that's right, big business doesn't respect the laws of sovereign nations.
