The NoMoGMo Collective:
NoMoGMO is the rather feisty name of a vision for a network of independent health food cooperative stores across the country. A typical store will be a small building with a very big "NoMoGMO" sign and a property large enough to house a Community garden and a production garden which grows much of the produce sold in the store.
These cooperatives help reduce the higher cost of organic produce by providing space for members to grow their own. And members can earn discounts by volunteering to help in the operation . The more work done by volunteer members means the less overhead that is required to keep the coop business model successful,
A small store with a big sign "NoMoGMO" is the response of slow food advocates and organic farmers to the recent revelation that the parent companies of organic foods such as Silk Milk and Boca Burgers and Naked Juice have been lobbying against the labeling of GMO foods.
Hey! What is this about parent corporations? Only living beings can be parents and have kids. These Psudo-people seem to be taking over the world!
But setting all that aside, there is a large and growing group of people who want to know what is in their food. They all want locally sourced, organic food with no additives or extra BS.
It is expected that centers like Austin Texas, San Francisco and LA and Bolder Colorado and similar localities will have a sufficient population of foodies, environmentalists and other idealists necessary to create such a project. Each NoMoGMO store will be different because staff, management and customer/members get to vote on what is carried in the store, employee compensation, member privileges and the overall organization of each business.
Well that is the vision so far. Really just a pipe dream, actually. But this is being sent to some of the most creative people anywhere. Perhaps you can see a way to develop a NoMoGMO cooperative in your community?
We now own www.nomogmo.net but need volunteers to help create the website. Thanks for your kind consideration. Rowland Huddleston This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
