Occupy Wall Street: You're Missing the Point

The problem with Occupy Wall Street is that some of its constituents and opponents seem to be completely missing the point.

This isn’t a left movement answer to the Tea Party.

This isn’t a bunch of lazy Americans wanting handouts.

This isn’t class warfare aimed to destroy the creators and doers of America.

This is a call for Americans to take responsibility for their own lives, and for the deteriorating state of their country and of the world, for the first time in their lives.
This is a call to move our outdated governing system out of the hands of the rich oligarchy and in to the Internet age where Everyone can have a voice.

The Internet allows us to quickly poll the entire American populace. Suddenly, the textbook reasons for “why we do things the way we do them” don’t hold up to inspection. A “representative democracy” is no longer necessary.

What’s happened is this: The Internet allowed my generation, the first Internet generation, to figure out that we have no voice, that everything is rapidly getting worse, and that we’ve been lied to our entire lives by those who were meant to keep us safe.

The reason the Occupy Movement is happening now is because we now have constant information from thousands of perspectives at our fingertips, and the ability to quickly connect to everyone with Internet access on the planet.

Within only weeks, a small movement started in New York City, has grown to a massive international revolution – thanks to the Internet.

We’ve become far less susceptible to manipulation, because we can check our facts instantly with Google. Horrible news for the “powers that be.”

All we are asking for is that corporations no longer be able to buy the votes of those who are meant to represent All of Us.

We know now that the corporations own our government. Billions spent every year lobbying and buying our politicians. It’s obvious that even the President has very little real power.

Corporations running the government has resulted in massive economic collapse, environmental ruin, foreclosures, a poisoned food supply… the list goes on. And on. And on.

All we want is to create a system that resembles what we’ve been told we were getting this whole time. We don’t want extra - just what was promised – a government “of the people, by the people, for the people.”

We want the 28th amendment passed:

"No person, corporation or business entity of any type, domestic or foreign, shall be allowed to contribute money, directly or indirectly, to any candidate for Federal office or to contribute money on behalf of or opposed to any type of campaign for Federal office. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, campaign contributions to candidates for Federal office shall not constitute speech of any kind as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution or any amendment to the U. S. Constitution. Congress shall set forth a federal holiday for the purposes of voting for candidates for Federal office."

What about this is so radical? Why is it so hard for people to understand?

Is it so hard to understand because it takes the power out of the hands of the 1% and gives a voice to every U.S. citizen?

How is one little paragraph so revolutionary?

Occupy isn’t going away because the world has changed, and the way the government is now run has become outdated. The movement can’t go away anymore than we can all go back to reading newspapers, and buying Encyclopedias from door-to-door salesmen.

We’re progressing as a race, as a family now, whether you’re ready for it or not.

We’re awake. We’re not going back to sleep.

Occupy the World. Occupy Together.
