I have known Raj Rajaratnam from the time when we were both five year olds in nursery school and I know very well that he is incapable of having thought out and successfully
executed what he is accused of having done.

The only strong point he has ever had is that of doing what he has been taught to do and doing it
persistently and with a lot more energy and determination than others in the same field.

This is what accounts for his outstanding success.

His success has been his undoing because as a Sri Lankan Tamil who had built the potential to become
a rallying point for capital flows into South Asia and to route such capital flows through his native Sri Lanka
thereby turning the island into a strategic centre linking South and South East Asia and the Indian Ocean
Rim Countries - he weakened the claim of other greater nations that aspire to become the
financial centre linking these regions.

Not surprisingly then in 1999 a strategic intelligence move that took the form of a complaint
originating from regional intelligence agencies was made to kick off an investigation
into his alleged links with Tamil terrorists.

The Federable Bureau of Investigation found no reason to prosecute him, but this move
successfully raised his profile in the eyes of authorities concerned with the law thereby facilitating
the wiretaps that would give the prosecution access to material that could be selectively used
to paint for the public at a time of great economic distress, a picture of an evil genius busily working
at the subversion of the financial system.

The prosecution of Raj has successfully neutralized the potential that he had generated
and I fear that the legal system and court have been used to further a political agenda
at the expense of the career and potential of an innocent citizen of America.

In my opinion it will indeed be a sad day should this attempt be allowed to succeed as it will show
that the law, even in a nation that stands out as an example to the whole world,can successfully be used to further political agendas and intrigue.
