John Bolton's Fascistic Agenda

If there is anyone who has a fetish for war, it is Trump's national security advisor John Bolton. For Bolton, diplomacy is an obstacle, not an option, for his quest to maintain and further expand U.S. imperialism. And with his demented agenda, Bolton uses war to back this up.

As someone who pushed for the 2003 Iraq War, Bolton lied about Saddam Hussein developing weapons of mass destruction. He, and others in the Bush Jr. regime, manipulated intelligence to give a pretext for going to war. Isham Tharoor, writing in the Washington Post, said that "...there were no WMDs to be found. But Bolton and his neoconservative allies got the war they wanted, a seismic event in modern history that prefigured so much of the instability that wracks the Middle East."

The death toll of the Iraq War ranges from 200,000 to one million Iraqis dead, although the latter figure was cited by a credible source, the British Journal, Lancet. There were also one million wounded and four million displaced. Bolton still justifies the war.

Bolton also desires war with North Korea. As with Iraq, Bolton also wants regime change. In an op-ed published by the Wall Street Journal, Bolton wrote, "...we should not wait until the very last minute [to bomb North Korea]. That would risk striking after the North has deliverable nuclear weapons, a much more dangerous situation." But Bolton still would want to strike North Korea anyway.

Likewise with Iran, Bolton desires bombing that country. He has supported regime change in that country for years. Bolton has had connections to a cult in Iran called the People's Jihadis, which has conducted acts of terror. Perhaps Bolton thinks this is the "democratic" opposition in Iran. But U.S. interference in Iraq and Libya have fueled the acts of religious fanatics running amok. The same could happen in Iran if the U.S. decides to invade, occupy and bomb.

Bolton's dream of bombing Iran was evident in a piece he wrote, entitled, "To Stop Iran's bombs, Bomb Iran." CNN's Gregory Krieg quoted a section of the article: "Time is terribly short, but a strike can still succeed. An attack need not destroy all of Iran's nuclear infrastructure, but by breaking the links in the nuclear-fuel cycle, it could set back its program by three to five years. The United States could do a thorough job of destruction..." For Bolton, time is always terribly short, an excuse to push for war.

Two entities Bolton despises are the United Nations (UN) and the International Criminal Court (ICC).  For the UN, Bolton said the following: "There's no such thing as the United Nations. If the UN secretary building in New York lost 10 stories, It wouldn't make a bit of difference." Calling the ICC "illegitimate," Bolton added, in a speech to the Federalist Society, "We will not cooperate with the ICC. We will provide no assistance to the ICC. We will not join the ICC. We will let the ICC die on its own. After all, for all intents and purposes, the ICC is already dead to us."

Bolton's desire of the UN's demise probably stems from the idea that it violates U.S. sovereignty. Since the U.S. has violated the sovereignty of nations numerous times, it is a perversely hypocritical idea. Actually, Bolton wants no obstacles in the way of U.S. imperialism.

Bolton's opinion on the ICC was a response to the ICC's wanting to charge the U.S. and Israel with war crimes. U.S. citizens like Bolton want to be exempt from condemnation and criminal charges because they truly want to dominate the world. Rather than democracy, it is the exportation of something anti-democratic.

Yet another fantasy for Bolton is to have former government contractor Edward Snowden "swing from a tall oak tree." For Bolton, Snowden is a traitor. In actuality, Snowden is a brave whistle-blower who exposed many global surveillance programs mainly run by the U.S.'s National Security Agency.

What about the man, himself? Bolton has called himself "pro-American" and a "libertarian conservative." But others have their descriptions of Bolton. For example, Tharoor described Bolton as an "ultra-hawk" and a "veteran 'swamp' creature." Juan Cole wrote the following: "Bolton has no particular expertise in anything at all, he is just an angry shyster lawyer picked up by the more insane elements of the Republican Party as their pit bull." Cole also called Bolton a "war criminal."

I'll add my two cents worth: Bolton is an ultra-nationalist, but I'm being polite. Because of his insane agenda of wanting to incite war, which in turn benefits the rich and the corporate monolith, Bolton is a fascist. And as Cole put it, "Fascism after all favors big corporations and vilifies and punishes workers and the poor."

Will Bolton ever pay for his crimes and his fetish for war? One can only hope.
