"Trump's pardon of Arpaio is a presidential endorsement of racism." ~ ACLU

Less than 2 weeks after his shameful, half-hearted statement on the Nazis in Charlottesville, Donald Trump thumbed his nose at the justice system of the United States and the Constitution.

The federal court clearly found Arpaio in violation of civil rights of Latinos in his racial profiling tactics and slapped him with a contempt charge when he openly disregarded their order.

A true leader worthy of Presidential status – of which Trump is clearly not – would have spoken out to defend the civil rights of Latinos.

Instead, our “president” issued a pardon to Sherriff Joe and basically told the Justice Department to shove their contempt order where the sun don’t shine.

Yes, a president can pardon anybody at any time in the judicial process.

But this sends a clear message:  Trump, as with Charlottesville, is pandering to his racist, conservative base, his last stronghold in shrinking approval numbers.

With this pardon, he also affirms the notion that he can do whatever he likes in the presidency, regardless of our federal judicial system and the Constitution.

This man continues to be an embarrassment to the office of the President of the United States with his obvious racist proclivities, indifference to the rule of law and blatant disregard for rights afforded to all people under the Constitution.
