Lesser of the Evils

In the upcoming election there will be 435 House, 37 Senate and 37 gubernatorial seats up for grabs. Democrats, Republicans and Independents are once again vying for our support with the ceremonial kissing of babies, handshakes, smiles and lip service. Thanks to the media, we will again be inundated by sound bites, many times pulled out of context or no text at all that amounts to no more than cheap PR and propaganda.

Keep in mind that the smiling and inviting candidate on the campaign trail has proven many times not to be the same individual we eventually send to Capitol Hill. Current congressional leaders on both sides have been a disappointment to the American people with their endless political rhetoric, posturing and gridlock.

Spending billions of dollars, Democrats, Republicans and Independents will undoubtedly come out swinging and slinging- mud while failing to deal with many of the issues of substance and truth that matter to constituents. Oh, let’s not forget about the endless phones calls to sway or confirm our vote. Did I miss anything?

Unfortunately our choices seem to have been relegated to the lesser of the evils. It’s critical that we do our homework and be well informed of the positions and history of the candidates running to be elected to office on our behalf. We will be in a much better position to determine fact from fiction when the spin doctors take over our airwaves.

Let’s rewrite the script and demand substantial answers to the questions that we have previously allowed our candidates to avoid or dance around. We can no longer blindly accept campaign rhetoric from either party on face value alone!
