What Hath Trinity Wrought

Beloved Friends,

Once again despite pleas from thousands of people of faith, including yours truly, Trinity Episcopal Church in New York City considered by Anglicans to be one of their more prestigious parishes (after all George Washington worshiped there) has asked the police to arrest Occupy Wall Street folke who had begged the church to grant them sanctuary! So far the parish has refused to explain their action particularly since initially the comments from Trinity toward OWS had been favorable.

One can only guess that perhaps the vestry and the rector decided that being "favorable" was one thing but actually doing something to support the OWS people was a horse of a different colour! Maybe they decided that the money changers could do more for the parish than OWS and if they did not have these people who had sought sanctuary forcible removed the said money changers might overturned the offering plates and Trinity would have to have a "bail out"!

Once again it so clear how the mainline church does not get it and the reason it does not get it is because she has forgotten why she is here and whom she is betrothed to and to whom she must give account. Or to put it another way the mainline church has sold its soul to the company store.

Jesus came a knocking at the door of Trinity Episcopal Church only to be turned away so he came and once again asked for shelter and he was arrested at the demand of Trinity Episcopal Church! He sat in his cell and wondered if his Mother and his foster dad would have been denied sanctuary when he was in her womb and he said out loud "reckon so"!

I am convinced that the silence from the institutional church will echo like a thousand tongues of fire in judgement against it and its leadership someday. When the Beatitudes are made relative and the Gospel made but one of many you have a conformable historic parish like Trinity Episcopal Church but you do not have a Christ centered one.

Peace
