GARY: Hey, what's the matter man - you look bummed.

UNIVERSLMAN: If we have to ask the City to approve our sponsored public function in the park, where anyone could fall down, the sponsors must have millions in insurance. Were I President - (born in Canada so I would have to run GOP) I would pass a law that required every owner of an assault rifle or handgun to carry insurance on that weapon. Should the person be found with such a weapon on his or her person without insurance, a big fine and confiscation. Sorry Gary, my heart aches for the huge loss of life in this country by gunfire.

GARY:So who gets the money when they shoot someone? The insurance companies?

UNIVERSLMAN: The victims and their families. . . . . and the lawyers of course.

GARY: So would you have to pick a policy for the number of people you might shoot???

UNIVERSLMAN: Exactly - the cheapest policies would only cover a wing-shot. HarHar

In reality, mandatory car insurance is a perfect model for gun insurance. Nothing needs to be changed except substitute gun for the word vehicle.

I would say gun owners should carry around what car owners need - probably at least $100,000 for an individual shooting with a cap of $250,000 for someone with a clean record.

After all, car owners and gun owners kill about the same number of people in the US each year. It would probably cost a little more per year to insure guns over cars because of the limited number of people one can kill with a car.

Anyway, 30,000+ gun deaths here per year is unacceptable - and just imagine the injuries, the collateral damage to families and friends, and the disabilities, and perpetual care cases, and the loss of freedom for people with indelible images stuck in their heads. Sorry gun people, I surrender.

GARY: There has always been guns in this country but now they are under the microscope. We had loaded guns on a unlocked gun rack when I grew up. That seems insane now.

UNIVERSLMAN: Brother, you got that right.
