It's all well and good
That maybe we should
Want people to be healthy.
But hold on a minute -
Is there anything in it
For our dear friends, the wealthy?

A public option
Could earn adoption
And health care might come off it.
Unless we think
That it might shrink
Insurance companies' profit.

We must go slow
Until we know
Our plan has reached perfection.
Until such a plan
Is firmly in hand
We'll continue our old direction.

Forget sick folks' plea.
What's in it for me?
I've got mine, the hell with you.
So costs will go high
And people will die.
Those lobbyists know what to do!
