Uniform Standard of Care for Physicians

"YOUR PROCEDURE IS DENIED ON THE BASIS OF MEDICAL NECESSITY". This is the statement all to frequently sent by HMO and insurance carrier doctors, often called "Medical Directors", who are hired for the purpose of cost-containment at the expense of the patient. These physicians (and sometimes non-physicians) are currently held to NO specific standard of care. A petition has been created to ask Congress and the President to mandate that any physician who uses ones medical license to make decisions which affect the care of a patient be held to the SAME STANDARD OF CARE as the physician directly caring for the patient. The current lack of a UNIFORM STANDARD OF CARE means the patient's care is influenced not by MEDICAL NECESSITY but by the forces of the PROFIT MOTIVE in the insurance industry. To correct this potentially catastrophic injustice, we have created a petition to mandate that any physician who makes decisions affecting ones care BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
