As I lay here on the couch, aching and in an altered state after a few days of a 100 to 101.9 degree fever, aside from the idiot tube, and watching movies, and inane commercials, I am struck by the beauty outside through the back windows and the sublime perfection of Nature.

There is a hummingbird floating at a red penstemon, a finch alighting on a railing, and too many bees to count, flying hither and yon, from the two resident hives, seeking the floral bouquet of nectars which through their magic, becomes honey. There are the bumble bees, almost as big as my thumb too, as well as the robins which have been attacking all the side mirrors in the neighborhood for a month, and the bright blue and alligator lizards which scurry. The solo hawks cry throughout the day, and at night, the solitude of the coyote's howls amidst the stars and blowing fog. All I can "think" as I be in delicious delirium is, wow, this is just so damn beautiful.

I so hope that eventually (and soon because we are likely already past the point of being able to "fix" things), humans will get past this stage of destroying the commons of Nature, and realize that, what we do to Nature, we are doing to all life. Money and stuff are far less important than the once healthy diverse living systems which we mine, pave, harvest, poison, and reduce to lifeless landfills and the egosystems of ownership which we somehow consider as more important than the living ecosystems, which support ALL life, including ours......

It is all a great mystery and, I believe we can do better.
May we protect and live in beauty, and create a future worth living in. Can we just be satisfied, and, what are we giving to life?
