A Few Thoughts on the Occupy Movement

Michael,

I completely and wholeheartedly agree with your list of demands, but I am concerned that such a comprehensive list at this point will only serve to dilute the focus of the Occupy movement and lead to a multitude of factions.

Given that the American people have tolerated so much for so long and that this is the first truly grassroots movement with momentum in decades, it is critical to have a clear and unifying message. As a fledgling movement, Occupy would benefit from a few shorter-term successes (such as changes in the tax structure or more stringent regulations of business) to sustain motivation and public attention. And accomplishing any one of the items on your list would be a major challenge and victory for American citizens.

In so many ways, the Occupy movement HAS to succeed if we have any chance at restoring democracy and individual liberty in this country. It's amazing that we have reached a point in our history where the people have to present demands of our government to follow the basic principles on which our country was founded.
