(This paper is based on the Book of Matthew, Chapter 23, in which Jesus calls out the Pharisees.  They were the rulers of Jerusalem in his day, and shared many characteristics of Donald Trump and the people surrounding him.)

Donald Trump,  you sit in the White House, head of the government of the most powerful nation on earth.  You promise to make America great again.  But you have impoverished this country, and disgraced it in the eyes of all other nations.  Instead of being admired, Americans are now pitied.

According to the US Constitution, We the People have vested executive authority in you to “form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity” (Preamble of the US Constitution).

Donald Trump, you have usurped this authority and used it for personal gain.  You have disrupted the Union of the states by pitting red states against blue.  You undermine justice and  stir up domestic violence and strife, encouraging extrajudicial kidnappings and murder.  You shred the general welfare by attacking the programs that protect the poor, and weakening the laws that safeguard our environment.   You attempt to take away our liberty and replace it with a police state.

Everything you do is for people to see.  You wave a Bible, but have no respect for its content.  You want to be treated with deference and obedience by those around you, but you have no respect  for your advisors, your military commanders, or you Cabinet.  You degrade and fire them if they don’t bend to your will and whim.

You call yourself blessed and favored by God, but you ignore the central teaching of Jesus, to love one’s neighbor.  Instead you provoke hatred and dissension among the people.  You teach hatred of our neighbors, the Mexicans, and tear their families apart when they seek to enter the country.

Woe to you, Donald Trump, you hypocrite.    You turn Christianity on its head.  You yourself break every principle of love, forgiveness, charity.  You even lack the basic consideration of wearing a mask during a pandemic, and encourage your followers to do the same.

Woe to you, Donald Trump, you hypocrite.      You hold rallies to gain supporters, and when they support you, you expose them to Covid-19.  You breach law and order, but you yourself are a man of lawlessness.  You push your adherents to form extrajudicial military units in defiance of the due process by which law and order are maintained.

Woe to you, Donald Trump, you hypocrite.    You claim the loyalty of fundamentalist Christians, but you yourself are blind to the values of Christianity.  You worship money, not God.  You demand respect because of your wealth, which is based on criminal activity.  And your followers turn a blind eye to your hypocrisy.

Woe to you, Donald Trump, you hypocrite.  You claim to be a friend of Americans, with a minor tax cut.  You claim responsibility for the stimulus checks mandated by Congress.  You have made the poor poorer, gutted the middle class, and gifted the billionaires with largesse.

Mt 23:23b You have neglected the most important matters of the law- justice, mercy and faithfulness.

Woe to you, Donald Trump, you hypocrite.  You make sure your hair and makeup are perfect for the camera, and boast that you are brilliant, but inside you are full of greed and self-indulgence.

Mt. 23: 26 First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.

Woe to you, Donald Trump, you hypocrite.  You and your followers pretend to be righteous, with your Bible study group and your lip service to Christian values, while you plot how to cut food stamps and health services for the poor.  You promise an end to the corona virus pandemic, and instead you rant against the measures that would stop it from spreading.  In fact you spread it yourself.

Mt 23:28 In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous, but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.

Woe to you, Donald Trump, you hypocrite.  You compare yourself to Abraham Lincoln, yet you venerate his enemies, the slave-owning leaders of the Confederacy, who caused the Civil War.  And now you are trying to create a civil war between their descendants, and the descendants of slaves and the supporters of Black Lives Matter.

To Donald Trump and associates:

Mt 23: 33  You snakes!  You brood of vipers!  
How will you escape being condemned to hell?
