Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu is Pushing the US the Wrong Way, an Enlightened Way to Deal With It

Let's Dwell on Netanyahu being Condemned by Other Israelis for what he is doing in the US.

At first glance US detente efforts with Iran will likely be sabotaged by Congress the way (until recently) domestic policy was. However, in Israel the debate is lively. A past Prime Minister in very vocally in support of detente with Iran and has some very persuasive arguments well worth repeating. Obama tried to appease US hawks by interpreting remaining sanctions more rigidly. Iran walked out of the talks, but December 15 they came back,

The early and more recent additions to the list of Senators who oppose increasing Iranian sanctions has for some reason not been combined,

By far the most powerful senator lobbying to squeeze Iran is not part of the Israeli lobby. Marco Rubio, his extraordinary power comes from being central to immigration reform and the end of Congressional gridlock. Rubio is the head of the right-wing Cuban lobby his goal is to further squeeze Cuba. The sanction that really hurts the Cuban economy is the US managing to fine non-American companies, and banks for what the US claims is money laundering, often claiming money tranfered for both Cuba and Iran at the same time.

Ironically Cuba and Israel were becoming friends before Alan Gross They gave Alan Gross a secret extremely high tech computer chip to Alan Gross to use with the Satellite TV equipment he had Cuban permission to set up for the small Jewish-Cuban community, instead of Israel sending an Israeli citizen to give it to the Jewish community.

Spies and political prisoners labeled spies are often traded. Since Cuba agreed to give all its other political prisoners to an emissary of the Pope, Alan Gross seemed to be a handy new bargaining chip to trade for the release of the Cuban 5. If Israel would take responsibility for Alan Gross's crime and directly negotiate his release with a trade deal or compensatation it would get rid of Rubio's favorite club. There is no reason for US relations with Iran and Cuba to keep getting intertwined. Cuba had expressed distress over religious fanaticism especially on the Left Bank of Palestine to the appreciation of Israel.

Finally after years, or should I say after generations, of gridlock and helplessness on the part of international organizations, problems have begun to be dealt with with all the veto powered nations of the UN cooperating with each other. There is also far less hate held by them or spread by them. Obama while not an anti-war President like Jimmy Carter is an anti-anger anti-hate President. I don't think that Ahmadinejad ever intended to attack Israel just made outlandish comments to get as many Sunni Muslims as possible feel solidarity with the Shiite minority in the Muslim world. The present President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani removed anti-US-billboards and makes vague, somewhat consolatory comments regarding Israel.

Under the current anti-anger bubble at the UN and Obama, those who want to keep the US on track with the UN peace processes have trouble generating anger toward the Israeli lobby, but why not instead spread the strong warnings of former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert against the current Israeli President's heavy-handed lobbying of US Congress and repeat his praise of Iran's President Rouhani's new approach to foreign policy,

Prime Minister Netanyahu is lashing back. He declared he won' t be silent on Iran and condemned Ehud Olmert claiming he was an ineffectual president,

I hope Ehud Ohmert gets invited to the US to lobby in a more positive direction.

Others need to be invited as well.

Awkwardly the last time Ohmert was invited to the US to speak was before Olmert spoke up in favor of the peace deal to talk such as at Darmouth College he was greeted with antiwar protesters,

If he comes again many antiwar and Palestine supporting activists might end up arguing with each other whether or not Ohmert is now a good guy.

How to get everyone who wants the end to tension and war to join the anti-hate ant-blame game format won't be easy, but I think the opportunity if we do would be overwhelming.

Follow up: What can the five nations with UN veto power jointly agree to now. How about no more outside weapons to be sent to Syria to either side? The Saudis gives by far the most, often to the most fundamental wing of the rebel cause. They have money and oil to ignore any symbolic attempt to sanction them. But are determined to avoid being in the limelight. An emphasis on allowing any outside military aid in a conflict would be a great precedent for the UN for future conflict and tensions.

I wrote other material on the tremendous opportunities of so many nations now working together without hurling blame and angry comments around,

I personally feel there is more reason to hope then the hope expressed when the UN was first founded. A more balanced Israeli lobby by inviting dissenters with establishment clout to speak in America would be a small part of creating a better world.
