Atheism

We are all atheists when it comes to Zeus, Horus, Osiris, Mithras, and many other ancient gods, who have now been relegated to the realm of myth.

What makes you think our present God is any different? Atheists, like those of the God-worshipping persuasion, are not alike. Take me for example. I believe in an afterlife [just not heaven and hell], I believe in angels [just not the celestial kind, the human kind], i believe in a higher power [just not God]. In a world of infinite possibilities, you presnt two -- God or no God? C'mon!

I call my higher power 'The Universe' What's the difference between God and The Universe? Primarily, judgment and punishment. The Universe does neither. It also does not involve itself in the day-to-day minutae of our lives. That is our responsibility.

God is like a crutch, absolving us of that pesky responsinility. There are mysteries and miracles, to be sure, But there are fewer and fewer as science advances. At the same time, religion retreats. As more is explained, there is less need of God. Once upon a time, eclipses and shooting stars were considered signs and miracles. No more.

Why do you think Christianity is so anti-science? From Galileo to stem-cell research, from Copernix]cus to cloning, they are against advancement. Most often they've been proven wrong.

What I see now is a religious movement in its death throes. An ardent attempt to remain vibrant and relevant.

A civilized society is one which tolerates eccentricity to the point of doubtful sanity. -- Robert Frost, poet (1874-1963)

Is man one of God's blunders or is God one of man's? -- Friedrich Nietzsche, philosopher (1844-1900)
