Love and hate

There seems to be a lot of hate in our discourse since President Obama was elected. It has started me thinking about where love and hate come from. All newborns are born innocent. They learn by imitating those around them: parents, siblings, friends, neighbors and eventually teachers, classmates, fellow church-goers and media including and especially TV. That is where love and hate come from.

As a parent, I recall being startled by words from my son’s mouth at a playground when he was playing at driving a car. He sounded just like me, and I immediately resolved to cleanup my language. If we are not satisfied with the actions of others, we must understand that all of us learn from each other. No one is a credit to his/her humanity if they hate another.
