The end of time not here yet!

These are hard times, but not the end time, said philosopher and television personality Jon Stewart. Where he gets this amazing insight is mostly from the news, and the news is common knowledge to anyone who can read.

With every passing day more preacher, novels, movies, gurus, prophets and nut jobs are proclaiming the end is nigh. It is good that this informative “news” program (Jon Stewart’s Daily Show on the Comedy Channel) shares the truth that the end is not here yet.

No need to fear for this old earth is still in its early stages. This globe and the surrounding cosmos took many millions of time, as we count it, and is not likely to end for millions of light years ahead. We still have to get to the 25th century like Buck Rogers did. (Believe cartoon character Buck Rogers. In the 1930s we laughed that Dick Tracy had a radio-phone on his wrist.)

As long as I can remember there have been those urging me to “prepare to meet God ” or “Armageddon is upon us.” Reminds me of the Negro spiritual album “God’s Trombone” when “time shall be no more” is sung.

This type of propaganda is filled with warnings of a burning hell if we don’t repent; others wear a white beard and carry a sign saying, “The End is Near.” They are a favorite joke in the world of cartoonists.

Last December 21 came and went and the ancient Maya prophecy proved to have been a misconception from the beginning. I don’t know any Mayans personally but from what I’ve read today’s Mayan people gave it no attention.

Not many weeks ago a couple of mysterious rocks the size of an apartment house zipped across the outer reaches of earth’s space, but did not end the world. Scientists and astrophysics are keeping watch for us, even as the preachers of doom keep ranting for us to repent before “the end comes.”

I wanted to send Joel Osteen a message, to hopefully motivate him to talk about more serious subjects, such as what Monsanto’ GMOs do to our future food supply. (If our food supply is tainted and water supply ruined, the end of our world will be here before Christ returns or Armageddon happens.)
Someone else got the jump on me and e-mailed Rev. Osteen: "He [Osteen] has a worldwide stage he isn't using to do enough good, but rather he's wafting lightweight sermons peppered with clichés across the Sunday airwaves."
Rev. Osteen, as well as hundreds of other preachers, have failed to use their gift to really enact meaningful change.
I understand why Joel Osteen and his confederates (television, radio and a host of local churches) have come under fire from traditionalists and those who say these guys preach a prosperity gospel. They are myth-makers of the worst kind. It’s a living.

When this old world does finally exit the stage I am of the opinion it will hardly make a blip on the history of galaxies, planets, stars, suns and moons. Some say the Universe is about 93 billion light years in diameter, and is just in it’s infant stages.

We just may not be as important as we think we are and the end of the world we live on will not be page one news somewhere out there in God’s universe.

So we should enjoy our days on earth. It is not likely anyone living today will see the return of a savior or endure an Armageddon. In reality, the end of the world is just a personal thing – the event we call death as we exit the planet.
