Sarah Huckabee Sanders Accuses Media of Anti-Liar Bias

By Andy Borowitz, The New Yorker

21 April 19

The article below is satire. Andy Borowitz is an American comedian and New York Times-bestselling author who satirizes the news for his column, "The Borowitz Report."

eacting to the journalist April Ryan’s call for her to be fired, the White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, said, on Friday, that she has been the victim of the media’s “widespread anti-liar bias.”

“From their obsession with fact-checking to their relentless attacks on falsehoods, the media have made no secret of their bias,” Sanders said. “It’s open season on liars in America.”

“This is media hypocrisy at its very worst,” she added. “The same journalists who advocate freedom of speech want to take that freedom away from anyone whose speech consists entirely of lies.”

“This is nothing more or less than a direct attack on the lying life style,” she said. “You take away my right to lie and you take away my ability to earn a living.”

Kellyanne Conway, the White House senior counsellor, spoke out in support of Sanders, telling reporters, “An attack on one liar is an attack on all liars.”

“Our country has seen some dark days, from the Bowling Green Massacre to the bugging of the White House microwave,” she said. “But this might be the darkest.”

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

Liars of the world unite. You've got a year and a half left to really show your stuff. The Donald is ready and able to lead you forward. Could you ask for anyone better??

Did not the courts decide that Fox and also Nike have the right to lie to the public? So why should we insist that Huckleberry Hound doesn't have the same right?

Of course it would be considered ethical and even Christian for her NOT to lie, but heck, lying is what she gets paid to do. And it isn't as if anyone believes her anymore so she isn't really deceiving anyone. She has waded so deep into the mud and slime that by now it is assumed until proven otherwise that every word that spews forth from her digestive orifice is a lie, contrary to fact, a fabrication, deceptive, fictitious, a falsification.

I understand she told the truth when under oath. Lying is one thing, perjury is another.

If the truth will set you free, maybe a lie will make you great again.

This is GREAT. Individual 1 should be screaming at this frontal attack on his core, life-long belief -- "I have a right to LIE." But, he can't lie with a straight face. There is always that tell-tale smirk. Anyone paying attention can see right through this FRAUD.

One has to admit that the Saunders-Conway -Trump combo is one of the most prolific team of liars in American history. They lie with great skill and style on every kind of topic and subject and have now entered the realm of the immortal deceivers. Who could ever forget Conway's description of the Bowling Green massacre or almost any claim Sir Donald makes on almost anything. Truly unforgettable.
