The President Is Endangering the Life of Rep. Ilhan Omar

By Robert Reich, Robert Reich's Facebook Page

13 April 19

write the following with sadness and trepidation. The president of the United States has endangered the life of a member of Congress by creating and disseminating a propaganda video, similar to those historically used by extremist political groups, which ties her to the 9/11 tragedy because she is a Muslim-American speaking up for Muslim-Americans.

He has not condemned the recent burnings of three black churches. He has not repudiated his relationship with the Saudi crown prince who murdered an American journalist. But he attacks a political opponent in Congress for exercising her First Amendment rights, and because she is a Muslim.

Congresswoman Omar has already received death threats, including one by a supporter of Trump who was recently arrested.

This is how tyranny takes hold, friends. All of us -- Christians and Jews, Democrats as well as Republican members of Congress -- have a duty to condemn Trump's actions.

He is an increasingly dangerous thug. We must do whatever we can, legally, to remove him from the presidency.

What do you think?

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

You nailed it. I still can't understand his being the President*, let alone for over 2 years, He's like an out of control toxic chemical fire, poisoning and destroying all in its wake. He needs to leave, maybe via indictment. I don't think impeachment will do it. Beyond belief are the depths to which our country has sunk.

"...He needs to leave, maybe via indictment..."
Right: "Maybe" indictment. Congress, the Courts and The Owners think that's too extreme. In my view, IF Trump is indicted and convicted, he should have his citizenship permanently revoked.

A-H! You see the USofA as a family real estate business. Daddy does 'anything' he alone decides necessary for survival: lie, steal, cheat, twist, turn - whatever will confuse everybody else.

No.

We are a country of laws. Our laws have never been attacked in quite this way before. We are confused. We are divided. We are tested. Do we use our laws? Do we allow ourselves to be confused? Divided?

No. I hope.

YES! This evil-but-clever jerk who now occupies the office of US president is a threat
not only to "the others" he seeks to discredit and to keep from entering our country,
but also, to our system of government and its Constitution, and to our very existence
on this planet! He needs to be gone, and SOON, before much more damage can
be done by this inappropriate moron currently holding such an important post!

Speaker Pelosi's comments about lack of urgency of impeachment are ringing increasingly hollow. He refuses to obey the law regarding his tax returns, he coached border patrol officials to ignore the law and now his actions put a Congress member's life in danger. At what point does his behavior become too hot for Speaker Pelosi to handle.

Expel him from the White House for high crimes and misdemeanors?

Why the question mark?

Perhaps the question mark should be replaced by an exclamation mark.

Expel him from the White House for high crimes and misdemeanors!

What else would you expect from a dim-witted right wing thug?

+7 # goodsensecynic 2019-04-14 08:52
You forgot a "criminal" and "sociopathic" ... dim-witted right-wing thug (with a pack of pusillanimous GOP cheerleaders and a herd of witless resentful racists behind him).

I think you are correct except I do not think we have any chance of removing him from the Presidency except through election. The Republicans in congress seem willing to protect him forever. Our Democracy is breaking down badly. Rule is by the rich, either individuals or groups of very rich people. Congress in general pays no attention to what the public wants but to support this Presidency is a sign of the end of our democracy. All the outspoken women in the new congress are getting death threats,

You may be right in your assessment of what can actually happen but you could be wrong too. How can we know unless we keep the pressure on-- to get rid of the thug? Speak out, laugh at him, criticize, support reasonable choice and programs all in a single package.

I think we should do this rather than talk about the odds as if we are sport jocks on the radio.

Vote for Democrats under all circumstances. We have our own version of the overcrowded field for the primary, but at least it is not a "clown car," such as that run by the republican party last time.

Sissy, coward Trump seems to believe the Mao's theory, "all power comes from the barrel of a gun." Is that the next step in the coward's power grab. Folks, America as we know it is in deep trouble. All hands are needed on board to derail his cowardly efforts to over turn what is great about America.

It is abundantly clear to me that the only Americans that can be "tied to the 9/11 tragedy" are the Republican neocons who used it to stampede the public into accepting the anti-liberty PATRIOT Act and the beyond stupid invasion of Iraq. They are the ones with the means and motivation to execute these attacks and cover up their involvement. They got the "New Pearl Harbor" of their dreams and used it to leverage just about every piece of legislation since that has eroded the integrity of our democracy and has insulted and degraded our liberty, prosperity, and security.

Strange coincidence it was that PNAC and leading Republicans called for a new Pearl Harbor in 1999, stole the election in 2000, then had a new Pearl Harbor in 2001. Unfortunately, I don't believe in "coincidences".

"On March 25 of this year (2019), Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, the Lawyers’ Committee for 9/11 Inquiry, and 9/11 family member Bob McIlvaine filed a lawsuit seeking to force the FBI to assess and report the evidence it gathered during the detention of ... five men" arrested on 9/11 following complaints of having been observed celebrating the destruction of the World Trade Center buildings from across the Hudson River in New Jersey. The van they had been driving was tested for evidence of explosives, but the results were never made public. They were detained for 71 days, but instead of being further investigated and prosecuted, they were quietly deported back to their home nation of Israel.

This President Trump and his presidency/admi nistration are a danger to the entire world. He must be removed swiftly from office.

He's good with that. Hopes that one of his "very fine people" will take care of that for him. From Congress: Crickets.
