I Will Fight to Make College Affordable for Everyone
30 March 19
ime and time again, it is made clear that low income, first generation and oftentimes, students of color are at a severe disadvantage when it comes to college. Mr. Jemmott says it best: “Right now, the system feels like it is crafted to keep low-income students like us out of college.” How is it that the richest country in the history of the world cannot afford to provide college and career counselors in every school in America? It really shouldn’t be that difficult and confusing to figure out the college application process and submit the FAFSA form for financial aid. We must do better. I want Mr. Jemmott and students like him to have the resources he needs to not only be successful in college but also to find a good-paying job to improve his life and that of his family. We can do that for Mr. Jemmott. We can do that for all young people who want to go to college. I will continue to fight to make college more affordable and accessible to ensure that all students can obtain the postsecondary education and workforce skills which we know are needed to be successful in today’s global economy.
