he real contest in the upcoming election isn't between Democrats and Republicans. It's between democracy and authoritarianism. And that will be the key contest beyond the midterms.

I'm gratified that influential organizations such as the Service Employees International Union, Planned Parenthood, and Move On this week issued a “Declaration for American Democracy." It is an important step towards building a democracy movement in the United States -- focused on getting big money out of politics; strengthening voting rights; ending gerrymandering and all forms of voter suppression; and securing ballots from hackers.

The American people have had enough of the corruption and abuses of power that are undermining our political system. We must keep up this momentum going beyond next week's elections. What do you think?
