Trump the Con-Artist Is at It Again

By Robert Reich, Robert Reich's Facebook Page

12 February 18

rump the con-artist is at it again – calling for a $1.5 trillion boost in infrastructure spending, but proposing just $200 billion in federal funding, and not saying where any of the money will come from.

Now that Trump and the Republicans have enacted a huge tax cut for corporations and the rich, there’s no money left.

Trump won’t admit this, but he plans to get money for his big infrastructure plan from (1) higher state and local taxes on average working people and the poor, (2) higher gas taxes paid mostly by average working people and the poor, (3) tolls on highways and bridges also paid by average working people and the poor, but which will go into the pockets of private investors, and (4) cuts in public services, that will hurt average working people and the poor.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

if there’s no difference between parties? how come dems never come up with crap like this? how come dems fight for chip, medicaid, medicare, social security, black lives, me too, equal pay, choice, immigrants, marijuana, lgbtq, free college, single payer, family leave, a living minimum wage, EPA. CDC, science, Puerto Rico, free press, free market, free speech, bank regs, clean air & water, no arctic drilling, hike taxes on the rich (3x under barak), justices on scotus who would reverse “citizens united” for bmillionaires, a prez who is not a dickhead, renewable fuel, so forth?

or is that too much to ask here on rsn? whatsa matta? are some differences over matters too small to care?

- we had our last good shot at escaping dickhead in nov. 2016 - AND WHIFFED!

“never hillary!” = “dickhead forever!”

Not only make your vote count - do what Malcolm Nance is saying - Bring someone else to the polls on election day! Every non-Drumph (aka sane) voter needs to bring a possible non-voter with them to vote! There are more than enough of us out there fully-disgusted with our so-called "government" right now that have the power to change it if they vote, vote, vote!

Agree, but what distinguishes these two parties for me -- as much as the excellent position list you present-- is the simply, basic ability at politics, at knowing how to balance funding and donor with PR with strong candidates and impact. The GOP knows what it wants and knows how to play the system, even play the game if you like. And the Dems, despite more humane, rational positions, ended up with Hillary Clinton, who lost the election more than the phony, egregious Trumpster won it. Competence, or ruthlessness, matter as much as being on the right side of history and reason.

Unfortunately, the whole Republican party is as bad as Trump.

The U.S. government, now controlled by greedy, doctrinaire villains, has become a kakistocracy that is the great enemy of the people.

He has made this initiative so toxic that no-one who has even a slight interest in promoting the general welfare could vote for it.
When it gets the resounding rejection it deserves, he will say I tried to finance infrastructure, but those democrats wouldn't let me do it.

The typical model for highway reconstruction is to lease the road to a corporation for 90 years in exchange for an upfront amount that the state or municipality may desperately need for other purposes. The corporation then builds the road and charges tolls to users.
Don't forget that truckers also pay those tolls, which will be reflected in higher prices for retail goods.
Again, the common man, who also has to pay income tax to support Trump's largess to the 1%, gets screwed multiple times.

But the stupid sheeple base will flock to the poles to re-elect him.

I'm beginning to think that Trump, rather than being a Con Artist, is in reality, SENILE and doesn't know ANYTHING about Business, Finance or ANYTHING about being the most Powerful C-in-C in the World. I KNOW he's ALWAYS been ignorant and has Hired "Staff" to do his Reading and devising, but lately, he has become Frightening in his delusioanal plans for this, ONCE Great, Nation! Just HOW long does it take to REMOVE someone of his Low Morals, Low Intelligence and Egregious Treasonous Behavior? He is INCOMPETENT and a CRIMINAL, Refusing to divest from his Businesses. NOT Vetting Close White House Aides of the President and has a BAD Habit of hiring MANY Personnel with Character as LOW as his is, if not LOWER! Rebel, Resist and RePudiate them until they are ALL indicted for their Foul Deeds while in our White House and Congress!

The horror, The apocalyptic effects of the GOP tax reform have struck again. This time MetLife announced that they are going to raise wages and offer new benefits.

Good - But my issue is this:

As Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer at METLIFE INC, Steven A. Kandarian made $14,576,288 in total compensation.

This is one of the issues I have with Conservatives. CERTAIN people will be getting raises at that Corporation.

Some people agree with this, some don't! I, for one, don't.

The guy is crazy and progressively destructive, and always does EXACTLY the wrong thing. He's gotta go, along with his boys.

Can't we just lock that lying bastard Trump up and throw away the key? Talk about misgovernment. He is a total disgrace and so is his political party. They were bad in 1936; they are worse now.
