Trump Supporters Furious That They Still Have Health Care

By Andy Borowitz, The New Yorker

30 July 17

The article below is satire. Andy Borowitz is an American comedian and New York Times-bestselling author who satirizes the news for his column, "The Borowitz Report."

ith a fury that could spell political trouble for Republicans in the midterm elections, Trump voters across the country on Friday expressed their outrage and anger that they still have health coverage.

“I went to bed Thursday night and slept like a baby, assuming that when I woke up I would have zero health insurance,” Carol Foyler, a Trump voter, said. “Instead, this nightmare.”

Harland Dorrinson, who voted for Trump “because he promised that he would take my health care away from me on Day 1,” said that he was “very upset” that he will still receive that benefit.

“I woke up this morning, and my family and I could still see a doctor,” he said. “This is a betrayal.”

Many Trump supporters said that congressional Republicans “gave up too soon” in their efforts to deprive ordinary Americans like them of their health care.

“They should not take August off,” Calvin Denoit, a Trump supporter, said. “They should stay in Washington and keep working until I totally lose my coverage.”

For Trump voters like Benoit, the abject disappointment of continuing to have health care raises fears about which other campaign promises might soon be broken.

“Now I don’t know what to believe,” he said. “Are we still going to get to pay billions of dollars in taxes for that wall?”

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

Truth be told, there are probably trump folks out there who believe this. They're the ones who think they're supporting old sick people forgetting the fact that even if they're young, they are not immune to illness or catastrophic injury such as a motorcycle or car crash. Well said, Andy.

This is really a good one. Sadly, there are many Teaparty types who really don't know that Medicare is a government program. They receive Medicare and want "governemnt healthcare" to be shut down because it is "welfare."

There's not a lot you can do when people are that stupid. I should say they get what they deserve.

Ref "There's not a lot you can do when people are that stupid. I should say they get what they deserve."

Yeah, well, the problem is that I'm getting what they deserve.

I should have said that access to good healthcare is a human right so they ARE getting what they deserve. All humans deserve equal rights. The problem is they are too stupid to know this.

They say we have a right to "freedom" and that "freedom" is not "free." We have to pay for it. So we spend many trillions of dollars a year to insure that people have this right. Only it is not a right any of us want. It is a right the military-indust rial-banking-is raeli complex wants us to have. But we do want the right to healthcare and we are willing to pay. So they (the m-i-b-i c) say it is not a right and we can't have it (unless we pay a lot).

Half of your topic comments here on RSN now have no responses to them.

Am I also a hardened operative? Would not even a hardened operative comment be better then none at all? Though I be not that thing.

It is clear you intention is not being served and you are looseing commentators by the drove.
It matters not I visit this site hardly at all. But with censorship here we just go there. You are only sending us there. Not stopping our voices.

All opposing views are now considered trolls I suppose. How then can communication ensue?
