This Is What Must Be Done Now

By Michael Moore, Michael Moore's Facebook Page

15 February 17

tunning bombshell right now from the New York Times -- Trump campaign chair, campaign officials and Trump associates made repeated contacts and calls with Russian intelligence during the YEAR leading up to the election.

It's what we all suspected. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what was going on: TRUMP COLLUDING WITH THE RUSSIANS TO THROW THE ELECTION TO HIM. So this is what I want done NOW:

  1. I and tens of millions of Americans demand that the weak and spineless Democrats bring Congress to a halt until investigative hearings are held and impeachment charges are filed. We don't want to hear you Dems huff and puff and grandstand and take symbolic actions. We demand that you halt all actions being taken by an illegitimately elected government until this matter is resolved.

  2. Attorney General J Beauregard Sessions must immediately appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate these potentially treasonous acts.

  3. So-Called President Trump could save the country a lot of time, money and pain by stepping down tonight.

  4. Somehow, our judicial system has to find a way to make restitution to this country. Pence can't be president as he, too, was elected under this same fraud. The court has to rule either that the President is the winner of the popular vote OR the election must be held over. The Republicans-- the beneficiaries of this treason --cannot be allowed to hold on to the power by default. If it turns out there's a traitor in the White House, the judicial branch must find a fair, peaceful way to un-do and then re-do the election of 2016. your social media marketing partner

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

In your #4 paragraph you state as a remedy :...OR the elections must be held over." THAT is the only path that is fair to the American people.
To turn the Presidency over to "the winner of the popular vote" would just be switching from one illegitimate individual to another.

This time I would hope to see Bernie Sanders run as an independent.
Of course absent hand counted paper ballots the owners of all that "proprietary software" will once again make the decision for us!
+13 # jsluka 2017-02-15 14:17
The elections will be "held over" in four years. There's not a snowball's chance in hell of any other scenario. The question is will the apparently moribund Democratic Party shoot itself in the foot again like they did by choosing to run Hillary Clinton and get Trump re-elected, or run a candidate more people can, in good conscience, vote for? I don't hold out much (if any) hope for the Democrats doing this, but otherwise there's a strong chance that we will have Trump for not just 4 but 8 years.

Note: Bernie Sanders will be 79 at the time of the next election, and I don't think the Democrats would select him as the next candidate anyway.
+34 # CDMR 2017-02-15 16:28
jsluka -- maybe Sanders will be too old but he is working toward 2020 harder than anyone. He may have a successor working with him. I don't know. But he's getting ready and that is very good.
+26 # LionMousePudding 2017-02-16 01:51
I'm voting for Sanders!
-16 # ericlipps 2017-02-16 05:55
There's no chance that Hillary will run again. She would be too old, and would in any case won't want to put up with a repeat of 2016, which saw her slimed from the front by Republicans and crippled from the back by ankle-biter Bernieites.
+4 # mashiguo 2017-02-16 10:46
I hope you are correct.
I fear that if you scratch hillary to find out what's underneath you will find nothing but blind ambition to be the first woman president.
I expect she has literally nothing else to live for.
I don't expect her to go quietly into that dark night of private life.
+12 # CL38 2017-02-17 16:21
So sick of your biased misinterpretati on about Sanders supporters. It was Hillary supporters who slimed Sanders and his supporters. Time for this nonsense to stop.

I'm curious to see, give that ericlipps comment was posted claiming Sanders supporters slimed Clinton, whether my comment calling this out will also be posted or dismissed.
+5 # Jaax88 2017-02-15 16:00
How can partisan arguments help now. Let's get over this Sanders' thing. Even tho I supported Bernie he was not nominated as a Johnnie-ccme-la tely Demo, Hillary won the popular vote so if trump and Pence are illegitimately in office and removed, then Hillary should be installed.
+11 # ericlipps 2017-02-16 05:57
Sorry, no. The election can't leally be reversed. The most that could happen would be the removal through impeachment of both trump and Pence, which unfortunately would give us President Paul Ryan.
-1 # JJS 2017-02-16 05:27
I don't think MM was saying the winner of the popular vote wins the election.

"The court has to rule either that the President is the winner of the popular vote OR the election must be held over."-M. Moore

I read this as the candidate must win BOTH the electoral vote AND the popular vote or there should be a new election; a do over. The Constitution is clear about the electoral vote, but that doesn't mean we can't tweak the rules. Remember the Supreme court ruling on the Florida recount re:Bush V. Gore? That was a vote counting ruling but still, it manipulated the process.
I think there could be a very, very slim chance the courts could be persuaded to have a re-do of the election if there was foreign influence, coercion or conspiracy of the election process or outcome. The rules for the re-do could even include the inclusion of some of the primary candidates, especially if voting irregularities were suspected during the primary process.

So add to #4: redo the primary vote with a runoff of the 2 top vote getters of the primaries. That would be Clinton or Sanders for the Dems and Cruz or Rubio for the Reps. Then have another General election with those winners. Whether a 3rd candidate would be allowed is debatable.
+2 # madame de farge 2017-02-18 08:51
Drumpf is making his chops with Wall Street as we speak with overturning protections against mining pollution, etc.... The Supreme Court will support him... just like they support the corporacracy...
-2 # ericlipps 2017-02-16 05:52
Unfortunately, there's no legal way to redo the election. (Sorry, Bernie fans.) "Fair" doesn't figure into it.
+8 # newell 2017-02-16 09:11
Impeach? Pence could very well be worse than Trump. The Republicans would love to see Trump impeached and Pence be President. I agree that a new election would be the best solution, but it won't happen.
+140 # jimbo 2017-02-15 14:20
There is another approach, a NATIONAL GENERAL STRIKE, to remain in effect until the whole trump regime resigns. Prevail on President Obama to lead a caretaker government until a new election can be called. Begin the strike immediately, every day trump remains in office is hugely dangerous for our nation, his and his regime's incompetence will destroy us if it is not stopped.

as Grand Lake Guy said... The other thing I want to know is who died and left Moore holding the tablets that say that Trump colluded with the Rissians? They've been trying to pin this on him before the primaries almost. Smells a lot like the Clintonistas to me.

Until we stop attacking the opposition without thinking first and accepting everything the leftist politicians say or do as sacrosanct we are only throwing fuel on the current fire. We have become the base of the corporate globalization, no longer the party of working people. if everything Trump is bad then everything against Trump must be good is the behavior. it's the same thinking that produced the confederacy, which subscribed to the delusional notion that southerners from the Potomac to Mexico could maintain the Plantation lifestyle and enslave workers in perpetuity. When they were pushed on it, they fought back viciously which became a four year national cataclysm. In today's world leftists invent realities which, of course, conform with the left wing ideology. Americans who have to go out every day and face reality are sick of it. If "government" acted responsibly and not as the confidence racket it has become, perhaps people wouldn't be as angry about paying taxes, and wouldn't have to vote for right wing radicals and against everything the left comes up with out of hand. This group of people have risen up and said "enough". And to my right wing friends, maybe it's time to start hobbling your irrational radicals as well.

"It's what we all suspected. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what was going on: TRUMP COLLUDING WITH THE RUSSIANS TO THROW THE ELECTION TO HIM. "

Time to call BS what it is.
The moment anyone explains how the Russians have the power to throw a US election, this story will have some meaning.

Until that time, it's just a load of used toilet paper.

We can point to the cia operations, the funding of militants, the violent disruptions, etc. that US has done all over the world.

Even presuming any allegations for which zero evidence has been presented are true, what did Russia do or what could Russia have done that would have thrown our election?
Did russia stop anyone from voting?
Did russia tamper with voting machines?
Did russia remove people from voting roles?
Did russia invent superdelegates to steal a nomination from the voters?
Did russia instigate a coup?
Did Russia instigate a general strike?

You got nothing.

Michael - I love you and feel you have always had the cares of the middle and lower classes in the heart of everything you do! I have to think about your ideas, but I'm inclined to agree. Drumph HAS TO GO NOW before he launches a war, but the 'official' line of succession ain't much better. You're first point keeps it in the ballpark, but where to go from there? We have never faced anything like this political disaster and it sure would be great to have Obama come back to oversee the new order! A former president and a constitutional scholar all in one - we are in "untrod water" and need a brave leader to see us through the mess we knew was coming. Poor Obama - just a short vacation before re-taking a new helm.
-40 # aljoschu 2017-02-15 15:18
Dear Michael,
"TRUMP COLLUDING WITH THE RUSSIANS TO THROW THE ELECTION TO HIM." - I wonder what should be so wrong, so reprehensible about that.
I've seen Mme Clinton here on German public tv repeatedly, she discussed in several talk shows, she spoke to chancellor Angela Merkel and to secretary of defense Ursula von der Leyen many times - Ursula was going enthusiastic about Hillary, secretary of state H. W. Steinmeier publicly called Trump a "preacher of hate". All German media unisono were full of repudiation against Trump. Etc. etc.
What was that other than colluding with Germans to throw the election to her???
No, I don't like Mr. Trump at all, because he says A today and B tomorrow. This is no basis for world politics.
However, let's stick to reason Michael and let's stop this partisan propaganda.

There is yet another way; actually count the votes in the 2016 election! Stein was not blocked from her effort to count all the ballots for nothing. I believe it is probable that losing electors voted on Dec 17th.
+16 # goodsensecynic 2017-02-15 17:13
I think it would be a wonderful idea to count all the ballots and decide the election fairly and accurately.

Unfortunately, I do not think this can be done. Electronic ballots may have been compromised from the outset, but the chances of having confidence in any "virtual recount" are slim to less than none.

As for the paper ballots, who can believe in a legitimate chain of custody in Republican states, especially where the vote was close?

As a foreigner, it's not for me to tell Americans what to do or how to do it; however, Americans may wish to keep in mind that (as usual) the whole world is watching ... some in disbelief, some in terror and some in both.
+34 # bbaldwin2001 2017-02-15 15:37
Jimbo, wish it could be that easy, believe me I hear you. However, Obama cannot lead a caretaker government and wouldn't do so if asked. While the majority of Americans are now against Trump is remains President. If it helps my bet is that either 1) he is going to drop dead; 2) He will be impeached.... lets hope it is the latter... I despise this man and what he has done to our country in less than 3 weeks....

I sense a meltdown in the works with Russia waiting to pickup the pieces. With no one at the helm, Kim Jung Un, Putin, et al will make their moves. Europe is already on shaky ground with Italy's banks close to folding. It wouldn't take much to see the international markets take a nose dive. Since Ron Paul doesn't want to see the Republicans spend their time and energies investigating Trump at the expense of passing the Republican's destructive, legislation agenda, I think he also speaks for many other Republican legislators.

The NYT did not cite a single shred of evidence. It was simply publishing some red meat for the Hillary's Sore Losers Club, of which Michael Moore is the President.

SoreLoserism is getting pretty annoying. I don't like Trump and the election really sucked, as did the elections in 2012, 2008, 2004, 2000.

Time to work on oppposing Trump where ever we can and working toward 2018 and 2020. The Demo party does not want to work toward 2018 and 2020 because they do not want a change in leadership. The current leaders are non viable any more. But they don't want to leave.

As an Sanders supporter (I'm certainly not a Trump supporter) - I viewed both Trump and Clinton as fascist. But please explain this to me- how was this 'treason'? OK, let's say the Russians gave Trump Intel about Clinton misdeeds or criminality.

I can see how that's perhaps unsportsman-lik e not to use American sources or something, but how is revealing the venality of Clinton tantamount to the throwing of the election?

This impeachment hysteria I see from Progressives and Dems is (legally) premature, I suspect. It reminds me a lot of the hysteria about Bill Clinton, and the desperation of the Birther movement. You've got to have something more than this, I would expect.

U.S. Code § 2381 - Treason -

"Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States."

Absolutely, the whole political situation in the US is insane, on all sides. As for Trump and his people, if they've colluded with foreign intelligence agencies about the election that's another matter. They've pissed off the US intelligence community, and there will be retribution. However, accepting campaign funds secretly from a foreign government to throw the election is fine. You can blame Citizens United and our own Supreme Court for making that perfectly legal. And the US Media played a foolishly helpful role in electing Trump for nothing more than their ratings. Yikes!

What a mess. Trumps administration is now, after only a month, imploding. A great American embarrassment. Filled with idiotic fascist thinkers, is anyone surprised? Greatly concerned yes, but no one should surprised. Everyone in government and MSM news is flailing. Now stories about Russian spy ships off our coasts. There are always Russian spy ships off our coasts! And we have them off of every other nations coasts. It's a non story. The focus should be on the incompetence and the illegality of the Trump administration' s actions, both domestic and international and the GOP failure for oversight. They own it and the whole thing will go down in flames. It's our job as citizens to try and minimize the damage to the rest of the nation and world and shepherd in some sense. We have the legal means to do this, but do we have the will?

This whole story about the Russians is a farce.

Private emails from the DNC showed that the DNC was working against Bernie.

The day before the DEM CONVENTION not the election.

No one cared but Bernie fans, and we already knew.

Clinton fans did not vote for Trump because of it. They figured it was the DNC, not Hillary

Polls did not bump appreciably in any direction.

Does it matter if the Russians did it? It's a fairy tale but go ahead and believe it.

It made no difference.

I find it really upsetting when so many intelligent people swallow such an empty fairy tale.

I can see 9/11, WMDs, whatever grand hoaxes there have been. But there was 'evidence' to point to.

This is a story and it's ONLY purpose as it was invented was so the DNC and Hillary would not have to consider that they had done anything wrong.

Now it has morphed into a story just as mesmerizing to the Left as Benghazi is to the Right.

But it's just bullshit and it takes away from real issues that the Democrats should be fighting on. How about a little attention to the fact that Trump has filled every post with someone determined to destroy it?

But that would be work. Much easier to pull out the cold war banners THE RUSSIANS DID IT!

I can understand why the msm play it this way. That's what their corporate masters tell them to do.

I can understand people freaking out about Trump, at least a bit.

But why are they defending a corporatist warmonger, and buying these lame DS manipulations?

I do not understand the non-Sanders Democrats, many of whom were tepid about Clinton a year ago. No one was thrilled we were going to have a Bush-Clinton contest. Yet here we are now, with the neolibs spinning lies and the msm propagandizing as instructed -- and so many Dems are swallowing it hook, line and sinker. And not only that, but defending the CIA!?

THAT is what I do not understand. What happened?

I Love Michael but I think he's a little out in front of his ski's here. To get a fair investigation, it will have to be a select bipartisan one and Sessions must recuse himself for this investigation. This will only happen with Republican agreement, as the Dems are in the minority in both Houses. It will have to be proved that Trump and Pence knew about and coordinated w Russian intelligence to use STOLEN materials from the DNC (which apparently so did Paul Ryan to throw the election. Only this action will get all three out of the picture. Only then, could we either put the popular vote winner in (Hillary) or start the election over again. Are there any precedents or plans in place for this kind of problem?
