Intro: "Michele Bachmann's husband Marcus, a Christian counselor who's also her strategist, has a clear record of anti-gay positions - he's referred to gays as 'barbarians.' But does that extremism slow down - or accelerate - Bachmann's head-turning overdrive? Keith and Politico's Ken Vogel take a closer look at the man who could be America's 'First Fellow.'"

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

Quoting papabob:
"me thinketh he protesteth too much"

Papabob has a solid point. It has been my experiencer as an observer over the past three-quarters of a century that those who make a fetish or profession of "reforming" and otherwise harassing gays and bisexuals all-too-often carry a touch of the same brush themselves. The question always arises: "Just who are the gay-bashing activists trying to convince? Themselves or their respective audiences?"

I agree with papabob: it might be a good time for Bachman's hubby to come out of the closet.

I think most are closet cases but that doesn't detract from the truth that the US electorate is motivated and galvanized by hate and fear more any concrete issues.
Michelle B. has a real chance of winning the primary and maybe the general based on the size of the hate/base she panders to. It is the Flyovers that both the GOP and the Democrats aren't factoring in this next race. This nation could swing farther into a Fascist state than it has already with the Patriot Act and FEMA. Think about what the Natio will look like if the Bachmann's of the US get a hold of those bits of legislation and turn them on those they hate. Not a pretty picture.

One of the problems of this relationship is that she has said that she believes the wife should be submissive to the husband. That gives him a whole lot more importance than the normal, run-of-the-mill spouse. For that reason, reporters need to start getting him on record, and getting her feelings about wife/husband power sharing into the public discussion. To have this knothead be THE power behind the throne, so to speak, scares me.
+3 # signalfire 2011-07-04 09:02
One wonders just what kind of 'submissive' we're talking about here...

Am I the only one who is having trouble even imagining these two having sex? Helmet Hair Stepford Glazed Eyes Shrill Voice with Swishy-Hatie on Top???
+4 # Terre 2011-07-04 20:53
Interesting comment...if Michelle believes that the wife should be submissive to her husband, why then is she the "power head" in their marriage.
Just asking.

Oh dear, what has become of the United States of America? Certifiable loons like these two garnering so much media attention & the actual , even remote chance that Bachmann could be this nations Commander-In-Ch ief & her husband 1st man.

To quote Charlie brown: "Good grief."

Human--but he wouldn't be "1st man." He'd be our 'First Gentleman." Ha, ha, ho, ho, hee, hee, har, har, snort. . .

It's easy for a woman like Michelle to be "Submissive" to a BIG OL' SCREAMING QUEEN! Good grief -- he makes Paul Lynde look like Clint Eastwood!

These people are not what we need to run our government. They are out to run our private lives and know nothing about governing. They need to stay out of our bedrooms and out of our lives. They are only inserting their noses into our personal business, just look at how these baggers have been "governing" so far.

i think calling Marcus Bachmann a closeted gay isn't really fair. He could just be a run of the mill hate monger. And, in this political climate, perfectly qualified to be the Republican first A-hole.
+9 # fredboy 2011-07-03 12:04
Doesn't the grand old party have any brilliant, cultured, well educated, thoughtful, dynamic, positive and attractive women who could play a positive role in healing and uniting the party and working toward more positive national policies? In recent years the party seems to only promote ignorant, selfish tramps.

May I suggest Elizabeth Warren? Don't know which side of the aisle she favors, but she's all of those things and more.

The answer would be...NO

The idea that Bachman has a sliver of a chance to even be the GOP's candidate for president is repulsive. She has accomplished nothing in government. I do think that making accusations that her creepy husband "doth protest too much" and is anti gay, does not necessarily mean that he is. I protest an awful lot about religious zealots, that doesn't mean that I am a closet religious fanatic.

Until we have real evidence, I don't think we need to make those accusations, we have enough reason to stop this kind of "couple power" with the facts that we have.

Like that presidential pretender Barry O'Bama had accomplished anything as a Senator.
Wait, oh yeah, he did vote present nearly half the time.
+5 # Hors-D-whores 2011-07-04 00:04
For one he was a Senator, Michele is not. Obama voted both in the House & Senate in ways that resemble they way he has governed as Pres. which could be more progressive for my taste. (I don't have time to get specific.) Bachman has let us know how she wants to govern and that is one hell of a frightening thought considering how anti Constitutional she is. She doesn't respect the office of the President as she has been outrageously insulting and has pretty much invited people to get violent. She and her husband don't appreciate the very American ideal of the Separation of Church and State. I believe they are part of the American Taliban.

If her husband has sexual issues, the problem is not that he may, but the hypocrisy of their actions. Michele and her husband have for most of their working lives received government money, then they espouse how terrible it is for other people to take or need government assistance or a helping hand.

Michele spells, T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

I suppose he's the perfect husband for her--as stupid as SHE is. I am constantly amazed at the right wing idiots the Repugs keep coming up with. One would think they would be ashamed of their quality because I, as a citizen of this country, certainly am.
+2 # BrokePimpStyles 2011-07-03 15:24
Michele Bachmann like every other Wierd HouseWife Of Asroturf has the right to have your pocket-gay-husb and be her stylist. And i think We should applaud his immaculate sense of style in choosing her dresses and accessories.

Also, seeing She is now the New Head of The State of Hate (thank goodness anyone appointed to read for Sarah is off today) Mr. Michele is officially Our First Stylist.

i mean President Obama only gave U.S. A FIRST GRANDMOTHER!

+5 # keithincali 2011-07-03 16:23
Her husband is one self-loathing closet case. As soon as I heard his voice I knew he was gay. His comments about gays being barbarians and must be punished by those in authority shows just how much he hates himself. He ran a cure the gay camp and that doesn't surprise me in the least. Michelle Bachmann is married to a self-hating closet queen.
-6 # Jimmy Shirley 2011-07-04 08:00
Disliking homosexuals does not equal self-hate neither does it imply one is a homosexual.
Also, why should anyone not be allowed to clearly express their strong disapproval of their lifestyle without the threat of being "punished by those in authority". What about the 1st Amendment? Misnomer "hate-speech laws" are by their very nature unConstitutiona l. I bet you lovers of homosexuals dont care about that, when y'all unfairly chastise those on the right as being anti-Constituti onal and anti-American.
0 # KittatinyHawk 2011-07-05 12:57
Who cares...stop giving them a thought. You only make them happy that you do so.
-1 # DLT888 2011-07-05 14:12
Yup, he's a gay in denial. Classic case. Self hatred turned outward. Welcome to the Repukican Party.

This is the tripe you folks comment on? There is absolutely no issue here. You just can't imagine a conservative female with talent to garner backing plausible as a candidate. Wake up and see the reality, she has valid points and you refuse to attack her plocies on governing, just attack her and her fa,ily...kind of what you did to Palin. So look what it got you: the failed policies of Obama. Keep attacking the BS, not look at the reality and rational politics of reducing spending and getting back to proper social values. Being Politically Correct has gotten us nothing, except bad things. Do what ever it is you want in a private setting, but don't think it needs to be out in the public viewing. And if we are really talking about running the country, well a business person and former senior military person would do just fine, not acommunity organizer who has done nothing but tear this country to shreds. Have fun trashing this comment, no the real issues.
