The invite begins: "The short version is we want you to consider doing something hard: coming to Washington in the hottest and stickiest weeks of the summer and engaging in civil disobedience that will quite possibly get you arrested."

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

Great action - again admiration for Naomi Klein and her friends intellect and their values. They do understand system and complexity.

Make sure you come back in October.

Conoco-Phillips is building a refinery for tar sands in Wood River, Illinois. Is there already a pipeline in place to connect to the North? This would be where the water is removed from the pipeline slurry - where does that all go? The Mississippi River is about a mile away. St. Louis gets its drinking water directly from the river downstream from Wood River.

Is my health worth their risk?

why not develop a class action law suit against the government for not protecting us and our children from devastating pollution?

Thoughtful and I wish we could have gotten to read more so that we would have the dates of the action in August.

My health(happens to all of us aging old O.H.'s..Origina l some point) would not allow me to attend this event. Too bad, voices in protest on a grand scale have proven effective for a variety of important issues over the years. From Ghandi & Dr.King, to the Vietnam protestors of the 60's & 70's groups of dissenting citizens have effected change in a positive & peaceful way. These methods are truly the voice of the people when performed in an orderly & sane fashion.

Naomi (et al), Thank yoyu very much for the invitation. I do not expect to be one of your attendees. But here is hoping that the press is dragged to the event. Tell them Sarah Palin will be there doing a strip tease for Glen Beck.

But seriously, after Washington, take the protest across America where those of us that were unable to get to DC, might better be able to rally closer to our homes.

Preventing both climate change and the natural evolution of a capitalist economy into an oligarchy will fix our world.

Wear your Obama buttons?

Is there anything this corporatist, nuclear power and clean coal supporting, war-mongering jackal could do that would make you throw your buttons in the garbage?

In my opinion fossil fuels are unneccessary since we can replace them with fuels that engines were originally designed for. fuels like alcohol and bio-diesel, or even Hydrogen generated via Alumina(an alloy of Aluminum/Galliu m) pellets dropped in water. But in our outdated economic system scarcity is the engine of America. The more rare, scarce, and available a resource the more valuable it becomes hence all regulations and laws tend to be relaxed as speculation drives profits ever higher. I do hope that the mainstream media can ignore the idiots convention in Iowa to pay attention to an issue that will directly affect your children's children. Naomi and Co. are carrying the weight.
