Rolling Stone: "Time is running out for our future on this planet, but the human race isn't going down without a fight. In recent years, a bold new wave of environmental activists has stepped up to stop the fossil fuel industry before it's too late."

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

We have bred up an unreasonably large population on the basis of ultra cheap fossil fuels. The sudden end to their use or the failure to find more will lead to the death of billions. Remember at the peak in fuel prices there were food riots in cities all over the Third World, think what an abrupt end to fossil fuel use would bring. Please, let's delay, delay, delay and carry out programs of education toward population reduction.

The entrenched ignoramuses who think that climate change is an issue to be voted on, yea vs. nay, are generally the same ones who support the hysterical wave of legislation against contraception, which in their ignorance they equate with abortion. Fancy them on population limitation? Of course, once people are born they can be thrown under the economic bus.

Abortion can kill "people" by the tens of thousands, whereas the economic bus is now willing people by the hundreds of thousands and soon by the hundreds of millions, if not billions. If anything we need population control of the ignoramuses. How about forced sterilization of the ignoramuses for a start?

handmjones.

You must be kidding?? We can NOT wait. but of course while we work hard to get renewable, energ y going we will have to use oil. But delay, delay, delay, is insane, insane, insane.

The best way to make the transition to sustainable energy is to put a tax on carbon that takes most of the profits from the oil billionaires. How about a flat tax of $50/barrel of crude oil and the equivalent /ton of coal and also un natural gas?
