Hedges writes: "The world has been turned upside down. The pestilence of corporate totalitarianism is spreading rapidly over the earth. The criminals have seized power. It is not, in the end, simply Assange or Manning they want. It is all who dare to defy the official narrative, to expose the big lie of the global corporate state."

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

Thank God, the whole truth finally summarized in the end in full detail, about exactly what is really happening, and what the present U.S. national security and global intelligence state is truly all about, and where it is leading, to the complete enslavement of us all, and the elimination of all those who seek transparency and true liberty and freedom. Does anyone having read this, especially the last paragraph of page four of this treatise, still believe that I'm "paranoid" about where all of this is leading? If you do, you must think Chris Hedges, Julian Assange, Bradley Manning and others are supposedly "paranoid", too; and/or that none of them know what they're talking about, and that they're supposedly "exaggerating". Well, they aren't any of those things; and, in particular, they aren't exaggerating at all. Of course, though, you wish they were, because most people want to remain lemmings, sheople and ostriches who bury their heads in the sand and avoid facing reality, and are willingly complicit in their own demise.

The current US power 'elite' has appropriated US history and is using it to mask its fascist character. That's useless, anyone can see through it. Why they hold on to the mask I don't know. Maybe they ARE secretly afraid of the wrath of the people. Historically, that would be unfounded. the Roman Empire didn't fall because the people rebelled. Nor did Nazi Germany, nor the USSR.

usa will collapse internally, implode for many reasons, most of which are already being manifested such as homelessness, poverty, crumbling infrastructures , disease and starvation. But above all, the water will not be sufficient to support life here anymore as it is currently known. And with our foundation of greed and arrogance, it won't take much suffering to begin assaults on the enemies of mankind: the usa government. At some point, death will be a good event to avoid torture and starvation. Remember, once a man has gone 3 days without food, you have a killer on your hands. You face death by exposure, disease, infection, lack of food water shelter long enough, death looks good. And getting there, you'll want to take some of the enemy with you. Forget north korea / iran / and so on. These are distractions from the current horror story expanding rapidly in amerika. We're going to get desperate soon for life.

You're talking about the current fascist president and his fascist cabinet...from the lazy, useless Holder on down...right. Talking about the fact that Bush or Obama, it makes no difference at all...that we have one party...the corporate party...and it doesn't matter if they are black, white, yellow or red...they are all...Dems and Repubs...fascis ts.
-1 # brux 2013-05-09 10:31
It's not the corporate party, the first thing we need to do is to figure out .... ie. target exactly who and what is behind this and supporting it ... military, media, energy, big ag, big pharma, etc.

It's not all corporations, it's not all people, but without a face money offered to people will always push them to do the wrong thing.

Yep, the U.S. government and "al CIAduh(!)" are now the international mob, or a major part of it. They learned from and took over where the mob left off after they dismantled them, or folded them into the organized government-crim e mob, and they make the original mob look like small potatoes in comparison. I mean, they murdered a relatively small number of people overall compared to vast number of people that the organized government-crim e mob mass-murders at will, and has already mass-murdered (numbering in the tens of millions, or over ten million just since World War 2). And now, with the endless "global war (OF!) terrorism", it is being ever-expanded. In addition, they're also pulling out all the stops and coming after the American people, and our liberties and freedoms, as well. They're militarizing the U.S. and turning it into a mass open air prison, getting ready to make it like Palestine; and, if you think that even though they have no qualms about mass-murdering innocent people abroad, that they somehow won't do the same to the American people, you've got a very rude awakening coming, because they are soon going to mass-murder Americans, too. Thus, I'm very happy to see websites like RSN, liberal sites that previously thought what's happening was supposedly nothing but "conspiracy theories", waking up to the fact that those, in reality "conspiracy FACTS", are happening right now, right before our very eyes. The question is, are We the People going to stop it (bitl)?

What we need is to put a face with all this corruption. The more transparency the harder it is for them to hide ... if we wait too long they will and are figuring out how to use the Internet against us instead of for us, and believe me with the money and power they can command 1984 will look like a child's cartoon.

I'm ashamed as a Brit (but a Scot -not English) that they would use the cops these infantile, revenge tactics, especially in a time of Cameron's "Austerity", where it's OK to spend whatever it takes on the intimidation of one man but the citizenry are being asked to sacrifice some of their long standing safety net, pandering to the US's alleged "Special relationship".
Thank goodness that Raphael Correa is a progressive president and not under the thumb of the US.
I like the part (1st paragraph, page 4) where the reporter establishes a certain camaraderie with the troops under fire, whatever his personal feelings on the war. Hedges should know -check out his book "War is a force that gives us meaning" culled from several fronts as a war correspondent before becoming one of the few voices speaking truth to power and suing Obama for his targeted assassination program.
Yet Dimwits get a library, Condosleazy Rice gets an historic women's membership of the Augusta national Golf club.
A few quotes from Hermann Goering very relevant to today's US.
"The victor will always be the judge, and the vanquished the accused."
"Why, of course, the people don't want war."
"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country".
Sound familiar yet?
Democracy? -Nein nein mein Fuhrer!

There is not "seizing" of power. Of embarrassing individuals, certainly. The steady erosion of what we imagine this nation as, is what has made a mockery of our rhetoric. "They" do not hate our freedom. They resist our enslavement. That we do not, is testament to the success of disinformation.

Once, television directed our attention and selectively ignored what did not fit the narrative. But now, “The internet, our greatest tool of emancipation,” Assange writes, “has been transformed into the most dangerous facilitator of totalitarianism we have ever seen.”

Again, ignorance will masquerade as information. All the failings of China and Russia we are given to point to as what makes us better than them, will exist all the more, in ourselves.

And we will have the government we deserve.

Can't they just put Assange in an over-sized diplomatic pouch and declare that he is a state asset - and won't that prevent the British government from grabbing him ... assuming they follow diplomatic procedure?

This thing of coming down politically on Manning and Assange and who knows what others in this country is the equivalent of the what the Russians did to their people when we were all high and mighty about being better than the Russians.

This is all based on this perpetual war and security state ideals ... and as much as I might support some of that it has gotten to the point to where it is being abused and has turned the country and the world into a profit making death machine for a few really rotten SOB groups and economic concerns.
