Impossible you say? This isn't foreclosure in the classic sense, and the vigil in front of the White House, maintained 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is not yet the issue.
But, the house where the woman who has maintained a presence against nuclear war and weaponry for 31 years takes a few hours rest each day is at risk of being sold to developers. And, with no place to prepare food and bathe and rest for a few hours a day, this 74-year-old woman will not physically be able to maintain her vigil.

A free film festival on the Occupy Wall Street movement is happening from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Gallery 25, 660 Van Ness Ave.
The "Occupy Zeitgeist Film Festival" mostly features political remixes, projects that use existing footage to make a political point. The event also includes a screening of the feature-length documentary "American Autumn" by Dennis Trainor Jr., which includes footage and interviews from every major Occupy site in the United States. It premiered in New York earlier this week.

Talk of reforming the District’s campaign finance laws was rekindled this week thanks to a D.C. Council hearing on a number of reform proposals. A lot of changes are on the table — restrictions on donations from city contractors, cracking down on “bundling” and a flat ban on corporate contributions to local candidates.
But there are some reforms that don’t require the law to change. In fact, some don’t require the District government to do anything at all.

Everybody is now talking about the student debt crisis, but nothing is being done about it. Thanks in large part to the great public amplifier of the Occupy movement, this year's presidential contenders have been forced to embrace student loan reform as a talking point in their respective campaigns. But the debt relief being pushed by the Obama administration is a token gesture, aimed at getting some traction on the youth vote - especially the more disillusioned or alienated student constituencies. Recent bills introduced in Congress - Student Loan Forgiveness Act (H.R. 4170) and the Private Student Bankruptcy Fairness Act (H.R. 2028) - have zero chance of passing in anything like their current form. Practically speaking, no reform program of any substance is on the legislative horizon, least of all one that would regulate the predatory lending practices of Wall Street banks.

Seven months after Occupy Wall Street's eviction from Zuccotti Park, the round-the-clock encampment in lower Manhattan that was once the movement's center, one protester has created his own version of the communal living experiment in Brooklyn.
The spacious apartment in Crown Heights where Austin Guest, a 31-year-old Harvard University graduate, lives with another seasoned protester is a far cry from the crowded, chaotic Zuccotti Park of last fall, where hundreds of protesters camped out each night.
Nevertheless, inspired by Zuccotti, with its free meals and free books, Guest said he and his friends are pursuing an Occupy-like experiment in mutual aid.

Wall Street recruits young, just out of college computer science majors and mathematicians to become “quants” whose skills are used among other things to predict when pension funds are going to make huge trades so that Wall Street can jump in ahead of them and do deals effectively raising the price the pension fund must pay or lowering the profit they might make.
One such young twenty something quant was Alexis Goldstein. Goldstein devised trading software for Deutsche Bank and Merrill Lynch. She has divulged some of Wall Street’s most closely held cultural secrets such as the phrase “rip the client’s face off” which means selling some derivative “solution” to a naive client such as a convent of nuns in Europe at a huge profit to the trader and to Wall Street while convincing the client that it’s the best deal they ever made. Sometimes they refer to these clients as “muppets.”

Since April 30, Occupy Homes MN has been working with the Cruz family, whose home went into foreclosure when PNC Bank mishandled an online payment. Although PNC executives have acknowledged their error and repeatedly told Cruz supporters that they are working on a solution, their actions have shown the opposite. They have refused to work with the family, instead working with Freddie Mac and the city of Minneapolis to launch a series of costly police raids against home, resulting in 23 arrests in less than a week. Despite ongoing protests, PNC still thinks we’ll go away if they ignore us long enough. It’s time to show them otherwise: on June 19, Alejandra and David Cruz will be travelling along with a team of supporters to PNC’s Pittsburgh headquarters to hand-deliver their modification documents and demand a meeting with CEO Jim Rohr! NEW YORK - Relentless tuition hikes, even at public institutions, have contributed to an astonishing student debt burden of more than $1 trillion. Inspired by student movements over the last month in Canada, Mexico, Chile, and across the world, education activists in cities around the U.S. have been organizing rallies and marches to raise awareness about the education crisis in this country. All in the Red, a New York-based activist collective, is declaring this Friday, June 22 to be the “Night of the Living Debt.” At 7 p.m. in Washington Square Park, performance artists/activists Rev. Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping will exorcise the demons of student debt, after which costumed zombies will march with pots and pans in hand through the streets of Manhattan, kicking off a summer of nationwide actions. .

On May 22nd, the day after the NATO summit concluded, the Chicago Tribune’s leading headline read: “Chicago keeps its cool.” Reading these four words at the airport before flying back to the east coast, I couldn’t help but laugh in disgust. Images of police repression from the past week raced through my mind; of unwarranted house raids and arrests, infiltration of activist groups, and violence against protesters in the streets. With the ghost of 1968 occupying the city’s collective consciousness throughout the month of May, NATO certainly could have been worse. But even if it is true that Chicago did not completely devolve into the chaotic melee of the Democratic National Convention over four decades before, suggesting that the militarized “Global Crossroads” managed to “keep its cool” still seemed dishonest.

Eight protesters with Occupy Wall Street were convicted on Monday of misdemeanor trespassing charges for entering a lot owned by a Manhattan church a month after their park encampment was dismantled.
A Criminal Court judge found the protesters guilty after a weeklong nonjury trial and sentenced seven of them to four days of community service. The eighth defendant was also convicted of two other misdemeanors - attempted criminal mischief and attempted criminal possession of burglar's tools - and was sentenced to 45 days in jail.

(AP) After a dozen Occupy Minnesota protesters were arrested at a downtown demonstration, the group quickly took to the Internet, posting video that activists said showed police treating them roughly and never warning them to leave.
But Minneapolis police knew warnings had been given. And they had their own video to prove it. So they posted the footage on YouTube, an example of how law enforcement agencies nationwide are embracing online video to cast doubt on false claims and offer their own perspective to the public.

In every conflict, insurgency, uprising and revolution I have covered as a foreign correspondent, the power elite used periods of dormancy, lulls and setbacks to write off the opposition. This is why obituaries for the Occupy movement are in vogue.
And this is why the next groundswell of popular protest - and there will be one - will be labeled as "unexpected," a "shock" and a "surprise."
The television pundits and talking heads, the columnists and academics who declare the movement dead are as out of touch with reality now as they were on Sept. 17 when New York City's Zuccotti Park was occupied. Nothing this movement does will ever be seen by them as a success. Nothing it does will ever be good enough.

More than 90,000 protesters, including the indignad@s and supporters of the #YoSoy132 student movement, took park in nonviolent, nonpartisan marches against political and media corruption in Mexico during the presidential debates last Sunday. Social media activists affiliated with #YoSoy132 have issued a video calling for supporters across the world to build an international movement for real democracy regardless of national borders. They ask for solidarity rallies at Mexican embassies and consulates to put pressure on the government and electoral officials ahead of the July 1 elections.

Last week was a somber one, as the 99% in Wisconsin failed in a people-powered effort to recall a governor who has shamelessly declared class war on working families.
There is certainly cause to question whether the occupation-inspired popular uprising was sold out by electoral politics. But first let us take heed of the tangible damage being done to the day to day lives of so many Wisconsinites, if only considering that the billionaire-backed subversion of democracy taking place is being explicitly cited as a model that will soon be followed across the country.
Likewise, sending any form of solidarity to our Cheesehead-clad brethren would undoubtedly be appreciated, even through an action as simple as tweeting to #SolidarityWI.
And let us recognize that the fight is absolutely not over in Wisconsin, whose state motto -- Forward -- couldn’t ring any truer.

Eight Occupy Wall Street protesters accused of trespassing on the property of a New York church in December went on trial Monday.
The courtroom was packed and an overflow of Occupy supporters spilled out into the hall as a Manhattan judge heard the testimony of New York City police officers who arrested protesters in a vacant lot on December 17.
Legal representatives for Trinity Church, a historic New York City institution that is also a big force in Manhattan real estate, were also in court.
Attorneys for the defendants questioned the orders received by officers to make arrests, whether they noticed "open to the public" signs posted around the property and whether Trinity Church had the authority to order police to clear the area of demonstrators.

Those who rely on mainstream media to tell them what's happening can be forgiven for coming to the same opinion as ex-Gov. Robert Ehrlich, who wrote in his recent column "Capitalism on trial" that the Occupy movement has disintegrated.
While aggressive law enforcement has prevented Occupy in many cities from re-establishing a prolonged and public presence, activists have put their energy to use by linking with community and neighborhood activists to fight the most visible footprint of the speculative 1 percent: foreclosed-upon homes.
Occupy Our Homes Baltimore, one of a number of local activist groups that has emerged from the Occupy Baltimore demonstration last October, is currently visiting the homes of families targeted for foreclosure in the Park Heights neighborhood of Baltimore.

I'm becoming more and more convinced that the left's collective crying out for strong, effective leadership is going to have to come from the leaderful (not leaderless) movement of young people across America. The fellow Occupiers I've marched and protested with in Houston, Madison and Denver are all well-spoken, optimistic, visionary leaders in their own communities.
None of us agree with those who represent us in office. We all agree government could work for the people if corporations were purged from the political process.
The Tea Party began as another leaderless movement that took to the streets to protest a lot of the same things we protest: A bought government, bailouts of the banks that put us in an economic freefall, and a government overly concerned with intruding into citizens' personal space and lives.

French Canadian students in Montreal stripped down to their skivvies and marched practically naked while Grand Prix audiences filled downtown cafes and restaurants Friday.
Police clamped down hard on scantily clad youth and blockades restricted access to the race grounds but streets surrounding the world class race were overflowing with thousands of buff Quebecois students in red war paint lending a colourful and vibrant aspect to this year's race.

I feel like I probably saw and was in the middle of only a fraction of all the tides of popular protests against the Grand Prix tonight. But to likely understate it, the police (SPVM to SQ) totally lost control and the people totally held the streets. And as one person said to us on the streets as riot cops swarmed by us for the umpteenth time - after about the umpteenth time that nearly everyone (and by nearly everyone, I mean an eclectic mix of thousands and thousands of people, many dressed in fancy Saturday night party clothes, far from "the usual suspects" and not a black bloc in sight) pushed the police back or for all intents and purposes kettled the cops, and after the many umpteenth times that nearly everyone booed at and many threw plastic bottles (or a beach ball) at the police - there's a universal language on the streets this evening, and it's "fuck the police."

Dozens of members of Occupy Providence gathered at the site of a gathering of Netroots Nation, a group of liberal political activists and journalists, protesting state aid to Curt Schilling's video game company.
Protesters oppose a $75 million loan guarantee by the Rhode Island Economic Development Corp. to the company owned by the former Red Sox pitcher. The company laid off its entire staff last month.

What began as a peaceful march to show solidarity with striking students in Quebec last night ended in at nearly a dozen arrests on Michigan Avenue. About 100 protesters assembled in front of the University Center at 525 S. State St., which houses students from DePaul University, Columbia College Chicago and Roosevelt University, to call attention to the massive student strike taking place in Quebec, where thousands of students have taken to the streets to protest tuition hikes for nearly four months.

A lawsuit filed against New York City police officers involved in arresting some 700 Occupy Wall Street protesters during a march over Brooklyn Bridge last fall can go forward, a Manhattan federal judge ruled on Thursday. Today, Occupy Wall Street activists and members of New York's 99% will deliver giant bags of cash to Governor Cuomo, hoping that a two million-dollar bribe will secure a long-awaited increase in New York State's minimum wage. Following the successful example set by the gambling industry, OWS and members of local community organizations have decided to try bribery, since overwhelming public support and peaceful protest have thus far failed to work. Scores of protesters will gather at the Governor's Manhattan office to deliver the bags of cash, with the hope that this bribe will buy the Governor's support for a living wage, in the same way that he became a staunch advocate for gambling interests after outlays of cash by the industry.

SAN FRANCISCO—A University of California, Berkeley report released Wednesday criticizes campus police for jabbing and clubbing student protesters with batons during Occupy demonstrations last fall. In its report, the campus Police Review Board committee said its members were disturbed by the repeated striking of demonstrators who tried to stop officers last Nov. 9 from removing tents they had pitched near Berkeley's Sproul Plaza.
"The vigor of these baton thrusts is most distressing," the report said. "The police hit some students while they seemed bent over in pain from prior strikes to the gut."

Looking to reopen the City Hall lawn without sparking a new and protracted occupation by demonstrators, the Los Angeles City Council voted Wednesday to bar tents from being set up in more than 400 parks.
Wednesday's vote also explicitly prohibits using sleeping bags or cots in a park once it closes for the day. The changes were spearheaded by Councilman Richard Alarcon, who supported the Occupy movement that brought encampments to major cities around the nation.

Following their eviction from Zuccotti Park last fall, Occupy Wall Street protesters thought they might find refuge in lower Manhattan's Duarte Square, a then-empty lot owned by Trinity Church. The landowners weren't interested in hosting demonstrators, who attempted to take the space (located conveniently next to New York's office) by force, leading to dozens of arrests and buckets of bad blood. Now, as the protesters face trial, the park is filled with food trucks, and the grudge match between Occupy and Trinity persists.

Despite the profound social change these movements have accomplished since the first high-heels were thrown over the barricades at Compton's Cafeteria and the Stonewall Inn, it is clear that the struggle for queer, trans, and gender-variant liberation is far from finished.

The Occupy National Gathering is a nationally coordinated event which will take place from June 30th to July 4th in Philadelphia. The Occupy movement will convene the Occupy National Gathering in the vicinity of Philadelphia’s Independence Mall for a week of direct actions, movement building and the creation of a vision for a democratic future. The National Gathering will kick off with a massive march with Healthcare-Now! and will conclude on July 5th when attendees will join the Guitarmy for a 99 mile march from Philadelphia to Wall Street in Lower Manhattan.

Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and one of the deep pockets behind the Occupy movement, says he is helping launch a campaign this summer to highlight the influence of corporate money in American politics.
Cohen and the Move to Amend advocacy group will distribute rubber stamps with anti-corporate election spending messages so that the politically minded can mark their dollar bills. The end goal: To secure a constitutional amendment saying corporations do not enjoy the same protected rights as individuals and that money is not a form of speech.

For Immediate Release: From: The National Gathering Working Group
The national convention of delegates on July 2nd in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is a product of the 99% Declaration affinity group and does not have the endorsement of the Occupy Movement. The 99D project employs methods that the Movement has found disconcerting including representative governance, closed meetings, and exclusionary tactics. Our Movement is committed to the principles of direct democracy, transparency, and horizontalism and we cannot endorse a convention that does not adhere to these principles. However, we do have a working group dedicated to conceiving of and planning a National Gathering of the Occupy Movement from the ground up. Early in the Movement a story was published in the Huffington Post which hinted at the idea of a National Gathering on July 4th 2012. However, those of us in Philadelphia were confused. We had not initiated a call for a gathering and we knew that neither had Occupy Wall Street.

Montreal - Protesters vowed to keep marching every night until their demands are met after a rainy daytime demonstration that started at the foot of Mount Royal and winded peacefully to Rosemont.
Multiple generations, many banging pots in unison, came as talks between the provincial government and student leaders collapsed on Thursday.
"This isn't a student strike, it's a society waking up," read a banner at the front of the march, summarizing how this movement has expanded beyond an opposition to tuition fee hikes.
