US Measles Outbreak Spreads to Idaho and Virginia, Hits 1,022 Cases

he United States’ worst measles outbreak in a quarter-century spread to Idaho and Virginia last week as public health authorities on Monday reported 41 new cases of the highly contagious and sometimes deadly disease.

The U.S. has recorded 1,022 cases of the diseases this year as of June 6, in an outbreak blamed on misinformation about vaccines, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

The 2019 outbreak, which has reached 28 states, is the worst since 1992, when 2,126 cases were recorded.

Federal health officials attribute this year’s outbreak to U.S. parents who refuse to vaccinate their children. These parents believe, contrary to scientific evidence, that ingredients in the vaccine can cause autism.

“We cannot say this enough: Vaccines are a safe and highly effective public health tool that can prevent this disease and end the current outbreak,” Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar said in a statement last week.

Measles was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000, meaning there was no continuous transmission of the disease for a year. Still, cases of the virus occur and spread via travelers coming from countries where measles is common.

CDC officials have warned that the country risks losing its measles elimination status if the ongoing outbreak, which began in October 2018 in New York, continues until October 2019.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

It is to be hoped that none of the victims suffer permanent harm, but if they do, then their parents need to spend a considerable time as guests of the government in government housing for the societal unfit.

A thousand cases of measles is insignificant. Probably this could occur as an expected error rate for people who were vaccinated. There have been no deaths from measles since 2003 but since then there have been several hundred death attributed to the vaccine.

I do think there is a vaccination crisis in the US. Here's the CDC's schedule of vaccination for birth to 18.

It is still very difficult to discover what is actually in the vaccines. The nervous systems and brains of children are not fully formed and these powerful drugs may have negative effects on them.

I think we need to investigate this more. Vaccinations are clearly a huge money maker for drug companies. They are forced on people by governments. Of course, they do a lot of good and that is the baseline. But there seem to have been many excesses.
