White House Reviews Military Plans Against Iran, in Echoes of Iraq War

By Eric Schmitt and Julian E. Barnes, The New York Times

14 May 19

t a meeting of President Trump’s top national security aides last Thursday, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan presented an updated military plan that envisions sending as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Iran attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons, administration officials said.

The revisions were ordered by hard-liners led by John R. Bolton, Mr. Trump’s national security adviser. They do not call for a land invasion of Iran, which would require vastly more troops, officials said.

The development reflects the influence of Mr. Bolton, one of the administration’s most virulent Iran hawks, whose push for confrontation with Tehran was ignored more than a decade ago by President George W. Bush.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

Bolton with the full support of Pompeo, is not happy unless he is facilitating the death of people all over the world. He is as twisted a sister as one could possibly find. Even Bush didn't goose-step to his very sick song but the creature that is occupying the WH lives in another Universe where he is the once and future king and above all reasoning and lawful behavior. His itching to press that red button and his wondering why we aren't using the nuclear weapons we have , combined with his wanting to extend his term will see us in World War III and a nuclear conflagration, unleashing the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. And for what? All for ego and self enrichment and a complete disdain for anyone and anything else.

I hate to be an alarmist, but it would definitely appear that it's all planned for, and the igniting spark is ready to be lit. As long as John Bolton remains in his position preemptive aggressive war by the Trump administration shudders in the balance.

Leave it to Bolton who never found a war he didn't like.

Great! Another million or so civilian deaths. 20,000 U.S. soldiers killed. Hundreds of thousand more with PTSD. A trillion $ or more down the drain (and a resurgence for the Islamic State to boot). Let's support the war monger Bolton's war providing he, his wife and daughter Jennifer lead the charge. Why not, if it's something you believe in?

Indeed, Bolton is the administration' s most virulent Iran hawks but he was not ignored by the Bush administration. Iran was one of Bush's Axis of Evil nations and scheduled for regime change. But Iran is a lot bigger war than Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, or all the rest.

The neo-cons and their Israeli masters have never given up their commitment to an all out war against Iran; their problem is timing and the risk. Iran may actually win this war. Iran will find allies in Iraq, Syria, and much of the rest of the middle east. All these nations may actually turn their weapons on Israel. There are not enough Patriot missiles in the world to stop all of Israel's neighbors from an all out attack.

I saw a talk by Ray McGovern on this. He said we have to go back to the 1996 Israeli + Neo-Con document called The Clean Break. It lays out a road map for the middle east that has been followed exactly for more than 20 years. Iran is the most difficult of all the targeted nations.

I sure hope the usual "coalition of the willing" will prevent President Bolton from starting a war against Iran. Trump has given up on foreign policy. He has given control to Bolton and his boss in Israel, Netanyahoo.

The most important way to stop this war of aggression against Iran is to stop Bolton. The NYTimes could do this. Bolton is a totally corrupt person. He's got financial dealings with terrorists, drug dealers, and many crime organizations. The NYTimes could publicize all of this and stimulate many attorneys general to open investigations and file indictments. That could put Bolton out of office in a few months.

But the NYTimes won't do this. It will support the war and Bolton because both of them are pro-Israel just like the NYTimes.

"... When journalists requested clarification, Trump said, "You can figure it out yourself. They know what I mean."

We know potus/bolton mean war.

The psychopaths want power at everyone else's expense and none of their own - oligarchy at its finest.

And congress gives the big money ...

Russia should give Iran a few anti-ship missiles armed with nuclear warheads.
