Roger Stone Ordered to Appear in Court Over Instagram Post Targeting Judge

By Erin Durkin, Guardian UK

Stone has formally apologized for the post, which showed the judge with what appeared to be crosshairs near her head

onald Trump’s longtime confidant Roger Stone was ordered to appear in court Thursday after a post he made on Instagram targeting the judge in his case.

Federal judge Amy Berman Jackson issued the order Tuesday, saying Stone must appear to make the case “as to why the media contact order entered in this case and/or his conditions of release should not be modified or revoked in light of the posts on his Instagram account on or about February 18, 2019.”

Stone is due in court Thursday at 2.20pm.

Stone has formally apologized for the since-deleted Instagram post, which showed Jackson with what appeared to be crosshairs near her head. His attorneys filed papers with the court Monday saying “he hereby apologizes to the court for the improper photograph and comment posted on Instagram today”.

“Mr Stone recognizes the impropriety and had it removed,” the lawyers wrote. He has denied the post was intended as a threat.

Stone is charged with lying to Congress about his communications with Wikileaks during the 2016 election. He’s also charged with witness tampering and obstruction of an official proceeding.

WikiLeaks published emails from Democrats believed to have been hacked by Russia in an attempt to help Trump win the election.

The judge issued a limited gag order in the case, ordering the talkative Stone to stay quiet about the case in and around the courthouse, but she stopped short of imposing a broad ban on public comments.

She could now choose to impose a more sweeping gag order or tighten the conditions of Stone’s bail, which allows him to travel with some restrictions. Stone has pled not guilty to the charges and is free on $250,000 bond.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

I have no doubt that this judge will have him in preventative detention, possibly solitary confinement, as she did to Manafort.

Stone is probably incapable of keeping his mouth shut. But why is that now a crime? He has a right to express his thoughts, even if they are a dislike for this clearly biased judge.

Stone is a class A creep and should be gagged and thrown into solitary confinement for his ill disguised attempt to intimidate a federal judge. The nerve of this cretin thinking he could get away with this little stunt. A Trump adviser, no less. Where does Sir Donald find such losers? In that big swamp he calls home.

There is nothing new or left-wing about the judge's actions. A cross-hair over the picture of a person is a clear invitation for gun violence against that person. Against a judge? I hope the judge has some ability to respond.

This is way beyond "keeping your mouth shut". Neither Trump nor Roger have any right to call their requests for violence or intimidation any quaint and innocent name, to be swept under THAT rug.

It works both ways. I smell multiple rats in the Covington snafu, but any threat of violence against the teenagers should be a crime.

HS -- "A cross-hair over the picture of a person is a clear invitation for gun violence against that person"

Except that the picture of the judge did not have a cross hairs over it. Take some time to google the original Instagram post. Stone's post was about Mueller and not about the judge. Stone only copied and pasted an image of the judge he found on the web. The above article and most media simply lie about what Stone really posted. They are taking the lies from the Mueller Probers who monitor everything Stone writes, says, or does and THEY filed a motion with the judge claiming that her photo had cross hairs on it.

We are deep into the world of fake news.

He apologizes to avoid punishment AFTER he has roused the MAGA morons to target the judge. He should be in jail for threatening a judge.
