NAACP Demands New York School District Apologize for Strip Search of Four 12-Year-Old Girls

By Associated Press

10 February 19

civil rights group representing families of four 12-year-old girls who claim they were strip searched for drugs in school is demanding an apology and other measures from an upstate New York school district.

The NAACP Legal Defense Fund sent a letter to the Binghamton City School District on Thursday. It says actions by a middle school principal and nurse on Jan. 15 violated the constitutional rights of the girls, who are black.

The district has said the girls had a medical evaluation but weren’t strip searched. It has hired a law firm to investigate independently.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has asked the state Education Department for a probe. The School Administrators Association of New York State is asking the community to reserve judgment until the investigations are completed.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

We need more information.
Having lived in New York City for 45 years I am never surprised by the racism that comes out of New York City and New York State. Their War on Drugs is aimed at non-white people only.

What does the fact that these girls were black have anything to do with this story?

Cowboy:
That’s right.
Since we no longer mistreat people of color, why bring up the fact that the girls were black?

We buried racial discrimination long ago. It’s only the librools who deny that fact about life in America. Didn’t Jackie get to play for the Dodgers? Didn’t Rosa get a front row seat? Didn’t Trevon’s family get justice? Didn’t we erect in Washington a statue in honor of MLK? And we did it even though he was a Communist,

Keep up the good work, Cowboy!

You libs always need to look at everything in terms of race or gender or some other victim category. 4 students were strip searched for drugs. the question is whether their rights were violated or not. What difference does it make what color they are. You racists need to start seeing people as humans rather that as groups of people divided by color.

Quoting Cowboy 45:
What does the fact that these girls were black have anything to do with this story?

It should not matter except that, by coincidence, young people shot by police; young people abused in adult prison; young people arrested for drugs just happen to be black.

Does this not make it an important part of the story?

So those things don't happen to people of other races?

No it doesn't, there is no logic to your argument.

What does the fact that the girls were black have anything to do with this story it might be because the charges were brought by the NAACP instead of say the Rotary Club.

I am what is popularly known as white but that never prevented me from recognizing overt and covert racism against black folk all my life. I have lived for long periods in Pittsburgh New York City and Los Angeles. I think New York City was the worst.

Binghamton is THREE HOURS AWAY from New York City. New York State is MUCH BIGGER than New York City. People from other states generally don't realize this.

Also, the article doesn't mention the color of the girls. Amazing how so many of the responses just assumed that the girls were black.

Look at the last three words of the 2nd paragraph.
