The police launched an investigation into the events surrounding the grassroots leader's abduction and subsequent murder.

omen's rights activist Maria Caicedo Muñoz was found dead in Rio Macay, Cauca department Friday. She was a member of the Asociacion de Mujeres Campesinas de Argelia (an association of women farmers).

The activist was previously, on October 20, kidnapped from her home in the municipality of Argelia, Cauca, by armed men, while her two daughters were tied.

Caicedo was part of a group which championed women's rights, in the region, which is linked to the Trabajadores Campesinos de Argelia (a farmer's rights association).

The police, along with the prosecutor's office, launched an investigation into the events surrounding the grassroots leader's abduction and subsequent murder.

Between January 1, 2016, when the peace agreement with Revolutionary Alternative Force of The Commons, FARC was signed, and October 23, 2018, some 478 social leaders have been killed. Nearly 80% of the deceased were Campesinos or Indigenous leaders.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

This sort of atrocity -- like the crotch-grabbing by male "leaders" and the Capitalists' wildly escalating rape of our planetary Motherland -- is directly attributable to the hatred and fear of femaleness at the epicenter of Abrahamic religion (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) and at the core of patriarchy in general.
