Trey Gowdy Steps Down From House Ethics Committee

ep. Trey Gowdy stepped down from the House Ethics Committee this week after five years of serving on the panel.

The South Carolina Republican tendered his resignation in a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan on Wednesday, the details of which were published in the Congressional Record on Thursday and reported by news outlets later in the week.

When he was named Chairman of the House Oversight Committee in June, Gowdy asked House leadership to take him off of one of his four committees, according to a spokesperson for Gowdy.

"Four committee assignments, including a chairmanship, is a challenging workload," Gowdy wrote in his letter.

Gowdy added, "I was happy to finish out the calendar year and conclude some matters then pending before the committee."

Besides serving as chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Gowdy serves on the Intelligence and Judiciary committees.

Ryan spokeswoman AshLee Strong also said Gowdy requested to be relieved of his duties from the Ethics Committee if he won the Oversight Committee chairmanship given the increased workload.

"We are grateful for his five years of service on the Ethics Committee and for agreeing to serve the remainder of the calendar year," she said. your social media marketing partner

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

With no Hillary to investigate, he apparently now has nothing to do there. And, of course, there are no ethical issues in the Trump era.

Beta -- don't count on this. House republicans are going after Hillary like gangbusters. I'm not sure what motivates them. They find any pretext they can. The Benghazi hearings, where I first heard of Gowdy, have been replaced by renewed investigations into Clinton's emails and now her role with Fusion GPS.

Gowdy is a trip. He's an actor who obviously has studied James Stewart and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.

The ENTIRE Trump Administration and his Willing Perpetrators in this Grand Farce of a Presidency should ALL bail while the bailing is good! When Special Prosecutor Mueller's Hammer falls, they will ALL be tainted with the same Splatter from thier Moron-in-Chief! Even so, Resist, Rebel and RePudiage them and NEVER let them forget their Monumental Failures and Sins of Ommission and Commission, where they MIGHT have HELPED an American who actually NEEDED it, instead of pandering to the Filthy Rich, who DON'T!
