US Veterans Stand With Standing Rock, Call for Action

By teleSUR

23 November 16

U.S. Armed Forces veterans are heeding to calls to stand in support of the Indigenous protesters as much as against the pipeline itself.

ome December, North Dakota Access Pipeline protesters will likely be receiving support from hundreds of U.S. veterans who have committed to their cause, if everything goes according to plan.

Organizer Wes Clark, Jr., best known as co-host of the Young Turks show, has stated that veterans will be willing to take a bullet if need be. The former U.S. Army officer has called the Standing Rock resistance “the most important event up to this time in human history,” as quoted by Business Insider.

Titled “Veterans Stand for Standing Rock,” the Facebook page announces that hundreds of veterans will be joining the protesters from Dec. 4 to Dec. 7. It also gives a link to a GoFundMe page raising funds for their trip, which has so far received more than US$68,000 of their US$200,000 goal.

The Facebook group was formed with a five-paragraph military operation order that clearly delineated the “opposing forces” – “Morton County Sheriff’s office combined with multiple state police agencies and private security contractors,” reported Business Insider.

According to their GoFundMe Page, they are calling for “peaceful, unarmed militia…(to) defend the water protectors from assault and intimidation at the hands of the militarized police force and DAPL security.”

“Everyday becomes more evident that the defenders of America must stand with the Water Protectors. Let's stop this savage injustice being committed right here at home,” it reads.

Though the group plans to don full military gear including body armor, they insist they are a peaceful group and will not bring arms.

“Bring Body armor, gas masks, earplugs AND shooting mufflers (we may be facing a sound cannon),” reads their Facebook page. “(B)ut no drugs, alcohol or weapons.” your social media marketing partner

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

Welcome, veterans, to the epic battle that is shaping up in North Dakota. It is profits versus sacred values; law enforcement against people of honor, the water protectors and a pipe line opposed to an indian nation's water supply. Maybe, this showdown is the opening salvo in the fight to save the earth from planetary extinction. How can we not join in?

I applaud your effort, but you are in the wrong place.

Send this to your elected scum sucking whore on Capital Hill and tell them they have been notified.

The American Spring will start when there are thousands of really, really pissed off people at the Capital (with 2x2s and baseball bats) all at the same time raising some serious hell against the Lunatics, and idiots absolutely nothing is ever, ever going to happen to these totally bought and paid for by the richest 400 families in the world that are becoming more and more powerful with each passing rigged election thanks to the stupid people.

So, scream, yell, chant, stomp your feet, threaten to hold your breath, and beat your drums so the media can show it on the evening news, while all of those who can actually do anything about it are home counting their donation money and laughing all the way to the bank.

How is that Hopie Changie been working out for you so far?

While Obama is pardoning turkeys, all the REAL TURKEYS r being appointed to run our "gummit." While Obama is hanging Medals of Freedom around the necks of honorable Americans, other Americans are ruining the lives of peaceful protesters. Wotthehell is wrong w/this picture? Nazi Germany in North Dakota-he fiddles. And horrible Trump will do even less.

It truly is astounding that this major event is occurring in the U.S. with only a minimum of attention and no involvement by the U.S. government. None. Of course, there are skirmishes on a minor scale taking place on a local level, with what appears to be no real concern either.

We should ALL be alarmed and concerned.

Great news, let's all try and spread the word to recruit any who may help defend water and the land.

Our current and past presidents, congress and judicial system are far too busy sucking at the teat of wealth, and as such are likely to do as little as possible to protect the Missouri watershed, unless and until the people force them to do follow the lead of the Standing Rock Sioux and other native communities.

And we should push our mainstream media to cover Standing Rock, which it's not doing right now.

190 years after Custer's Last Stand; 126 years after the massacre at Wounded Knee, US soldiers are headed back to Dakota "Indian" land, but this time unarmed, to support Native Americans. Some things do change, for the better. For some American's, though, we can never take enough.

My latest bulletin from Veterans for Peace (VFP) asks for members to join the ones who are going to Standing Rock in December or are already there. I wish I were younger and had more money, and I'd go too, but through the Granny Peace Brigade I did send some winter clothing to the protesters, and helped pack it plus bags of donations from many other members. Via the US Postal Service we sent, I recall, 25 boxes of warm clothing at our expense. But what we really need is a really solid, million person response for Obama's inaction. Ike, a Republican President, sent federal marshals to Little Rock before there ever was legislation to protect African Americans from the brutal racists--and the Voting Rights Act only covered the southern states, while North Dakota is as far north as the US can get. Kennedy sent marshals, too--who are more national than the National Guard, with its local prejudices. Why isn't our President sending federal marshals to North Dakota?
