US Finally Admits to Working With Saudi Arabia in Yemen

A Defense Department spokesperson said for the first time that the United States is involved in Yemen, which "is of great interest to us."

he U.S. military has for the first time publicly acknowledged that U.S. troops are operating inside Yemen to help the country’s government and a Saudi-backed coalition confront al-Qaida affiliated forces.

Defense Department spokesperson Navy captain Jeff Davis said on Friday that a “very small number” of military personnel has in recent weeks been working with Yemeni and Arab Coalition forces to push al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) fighters from the port city of Mukalla.

The Pentagon has stepped up air strikes against the jihadists in the war-torn country, Davis said.

“This is of great interest to us. It does not serve our interests to have a terrorist organization in charge of a port city, and so we are assisting in that,” the spokesperson added.

He said the troops were helping Emirati forces with “intelligence support” but declined to say if they are special operations forces.

While the number of U.S. personnel on the ground is limited, the U.S. is also offering an array of assistance to partners in Yemen, including air-to-air refueling capabilities, surveillance, planning, maritime security and medical help.

The U.S. Navy also has several ships nearby, including an amphibious assault ship called the USS Boxer and two destroyers.

AQAP took advantage of the chaos of fighting between pro-government forces and Iran-backed rebels to expand its control in southern Yemen, including the seizure of Mukalla in April last year.

The Pentagon announced it has carried out a recent string of strikes on AQAP in recent weeks, outside of Mukalla.

“We have conducted four counterterrorism strikes against AQAP since 23 April, killing 10 Al-Qaeda operatives and injuring another,” Davis said.

The U.S. periodically conducts such attacks on AQAP targets in Yemen, including a strike in March on a training camp that killed more than 70 fighters. AQAP, which has long been entrenched in Yemen, is regarded by Washington as the network’s most dangerous branch and has carried out deadly attacks on the West.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

Invasions of innocent countries is Obama's and dubya's specialty. Obama sold / is selling SA the Weapons of Mass Destruction they use to brutally disembody Yemen civilians. SA recently bombed 2 more Doctors Without Borders hospitals in Yemen. Bomb fragments with Made in the USA labels have been reported in the media like RSN. Obama also bombed the Doctors Without Borders hospital in Kunduz, targeted it, and blew away those fleeing with injuries, their parents and visitors and those in stretchers. I'm sure the same in Yemen - kill them all in those horrible hospitals who are saving lives that have been blown to kingdom CUM by Obama. I have a photo of a 10 year old boy with both armed blown off, and bad burns all over his body. He's one of such children by the 10,000s now who look like this child. Is Obama and his evil generals gonna care for this child who they sentenced to a life that is worse than hell, same for other millions he's blown apart and allowed to live? Death is far better. So will Obama have the guts to kill this child as an act of mercy? And also kill those other millions to put them out of the misery he gave them for life?

The US maintains a force of about 70,000 special forces. By law the regime does not have to say where they are or what they are doing, as would be the case with regular uniform soldiers. Anyone would have to be stupid to suppose that there are not US special forces in Yemen fighting on the front line.

US special forces are killing people, blowing up things, destroying things all over the world. They are the American terrorist bands. They go around the world fucking up everything they get their hands on. Is there any nation on earth that maintains such a huge terrorist band. Even ISIS is not this big. But of course ISIS is another of Obama's special forces.

Here we are helping our very rich friends (among the richest in the world), the Saudis, with the means to obliterate the poorest Arabs in the world, the Yemenis. Somewhere there's a comeuppance for this my friends. Wrong is wrong.

Let's get this straight.

Yemen: a coup d'etat; the capital is occupied; president flees the country; Saudi Arabia and United States immediately claim the NEW government are rebels and terrorists and engage in military attacks on its supporters.

Ukraine: a coup d'etat; the capital is occupied; president flees the country; NATO and United States immediately (the next day) claim OLD government are rebels and terrorists and engage in military attacks on its supporters.

Huh?

We pretty much have the right to bomb anywhere anytime as long as we say there are terrorists in the region, right?
