Rep. Rashida Tlaib Says House Is 'Moving Toward' Impeachment

“This is going to be a precedent that we set when we don’t hold this president accountable to the rule of the law and to the United States Constitution,” congresswoman tells Chuck Todd

n Sunday morning, Meet the Press host Chuck Todd started his conversation with Representative Rashida Tlaib saying that she is “easily, one of louder voices when it comes to impeachment” of President Trump. During the interview, the freshman congresswoman from Michigan proved that assessment accurate.

Todd asked the congresswoman if she believed the Democratic leadership in the House are being methodical or stalling for time so they can remove the issue of impeachment off the table and then use the ‘We’re too close to the presidential election’ excuse to move forward.

Tlaib aggressively called out the status quo, “Well, I can tell you as one of the newest members of Congress, the traditional Congressional oversight process isn’t working,” she answered.

“This is not about the 2020 election,” the congresswoman continued, “It’s about doing what’s right now for our country. This is going to be a precedent that we set when we don’t hold this president accountable to the rule of the law and to the United States Constitution.”

Tlaib went on to say that ignoring the president’s actions and expecting the government to function in a normal way is impossible. “I think we need to stop separating the fact that we’re trying to change people’s lives for the better but we have an administration that continues to violate the United States constitution,” Tlaib said.

Tlaib also added that more of her colleagues in the House are beginning to support impeachment, “I think it’s moving toward that. “[The president’s behavior is] going to demand that, it already is.”

It’s abundantly clear that this crop of newly elected members of congress will not sit idly by while Rome burns. After all, Tlaib is the one who said, “We’re going to impeach the motherfucker.” Guess we all better get used to it.

A note of caution regarding our comment sections:

For months a stream of media reports have warned of coordinated propaganda efforts targeting political websites based in the U.S., particularly in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

We too were alarmed at the patterns we were, and still are, seeing. It is clear that the provocateurs are far more savvy, disciplined, and purposeful than anything we have ever experienced before.

It is also clear that we still have elements of the same activity in our article discussion forums at this time.

We have hosted and encouraged reader expression since the turn of the century. The comments of our readers are the most vibrant, best-used interactive feature at Reader Supported News. Accordingly, we are strongly resistant to interrupting those services.

It is, however, important to note that in all likelihood hardened operatives are attempting to shape the dialog our community seeks to engage in.

Adapt and overcome.

The new representatives in the House got sand, as they once said in the old west. Or as contemporaries say, they got balls. Whatever, they are coming for Sir Donald and his path to the kingship is now in trouble. If defeated in 20/20 he may have to lead a revolt to maintain control. Does he have the sand or the testicular equipment to lead such a fight? I think the gas will go out of the bag and Sir Donald will be an unpleasant footnote in American History. So it all goes.

I would love to see Trump impeached. But I'd also like to see the rest of his regime driven from power. Here's a toast to a major loss for the regime in 2020.

tr -- I think Demos should take a totally different strategy with Trump. Most people know, Trump has the personal qualities of a 10 or 12 year old. He wants to be the big man in the room. He wants to be seen doing something so people will admire him. Pissing matches, bullying, cat-fighting, and the impeachment war with loser-Demos in congress are perfect for Trump. He's good at winning these games.

Don't play these games with him. They keep him busy twittering on one level, but on another they push him into the arms of the killer sociopath neo-cons who want to start wars all over.

Instead, Demos should engage Trump in massive projects like the infrastructure program. Trump could appear with a golden shovel at a new airport, freeway, or something. Give him things to do that actually helpful. Trump would love it and the nation would actually benefit. It would take him away from the fucking sociopath neo-cons and Israelis. It would minimize his pissing matches on twitter.

Trump can be manipulated. Everyone sees that. Pissing matches are one form of manipulation but they are Trumps strong suit. And they don't so anyone any good. Demos will likely lose the pissing match -- just ask the 16 republicans who ran against him in 2016.

All parents know that the way to deal with a pre-teen boy is to keep him busy with projects he likes. Don't get into pissing matches with him. You will lose. Keep him busy. Keep him stimulated with positive things.

george W Bush should have been impeached along with Chenney. Obama pardoned them and after not being impeached, they also could not be tried.
Just get on with government.
Get the shit out in 2020 and let the courts go after the rotten ex president.

It is sad to see Rep. Tlaib joining the dead horse beating faction of the Demo party. But after all, she was on the Chuck Todd show. Probably she was asked on with the condition that she give the mass a good show of beating the dead horse.

It would be much better for her to join Sanders and work like hell to create a momentum that the DNC and establishment Demos could not nullify a year from now at the nominating convention.

Pelosi said yesterday that she can count only 38 people in support of impeachment. The media gives these impeachment hawks all the press so the seem like a ground swell and majority. But they are really only the losers of the party who have discovered that beating dead horses gets them on tv. Take Swallowwell. He's an empty suit but the media loves to see him pounding away.

The committees don't have anything. Mueller gave them no evidence. He gave them the stiff middle finger. He challenged them to subpoena him. If they don't subpoena him but do subpoena Barr (who does not know anything), they will look like wimps.

Meuller said in his announcement that if they could have found Trump innocent, they would have said it. But there has already been an avalanche of good investigative journalism showing how the Mueller Probe hid or ignored "exculpatory" evidence. Mueller, Weissman and others have bad track records of hiding exculpatory evidence. So Mueller says he did not report the exculpatory evidence. That does not help congress at all.
